This is number one issue, I have several that cost me a fortune to repair it and now there is more. I purchased a Dodge Caravan in October of 2012. I purchased this van and I noticed the hard shifting when I put the van into drive or backing up. I took it in to McKenzie's for diagnostic and they did this upgrade and said it should fix the problem which it did not. Still doing this to today date of 2019. This has yet to be fixed may need Solenoid Pack if the code p083b & A Valve Assembly to be replaced. I am not sure how much this will cost as I have not repair this at this time as there were more pressing matters. My odometer is only 137,250.

This is issue number one, others to follow as I have a few more complaints.

2012-Dodge Grand Caravan just out of warranty.

My van has had all the little problems listed in the reports given by others on this site. It started with the shuttering in reverse, the big clunk when putting the van from park to drive, and when taken to dealer, was told "oh ya we have a fix" the reprogram software upgrade. Had that done and the van did run better, but just of a little while.

Dec 24, 2015 check engine light came on and as travel was planned over the holidays, dealer closed, i had a mechanic I know read the code so I could have piece of mind while traveling..Code came back as a transmission high pressure failure(don't remember actual code displayed). a puzzled look on him told me he did not like what came up.

Van was taken to dealer as soon as they re opened from holiday. This is were is gets interesting....with "Check Engine" light on, they reprogrammed my van, saying it is the fix for the hard shifts and shutter in reverse, cleared all the codes and told is was fixed. on check out they mentioned that my tire low pressure sensor was on.........told them no. winter tire rims have sensors and they are working just fine, the van was in because of the transmission high pressure sensor failure....

After leaving the dealership, it felt like i was driving on rumble strips when van was shifting gears from 3 on to 6...took the van back and my biggest fear, was told it needs a new transmission.....

Every recommended service, oil change, transmission fluid change, was followed and now with the van just being out of warranty, I was basically told by a very cold service adviser, "Sorry about your luck". A complaint was also put into Chrysler Canada and they pretty much said the same...a 15% discount was offered to have it fixed there..

There seems that the transmission is a weak part of this van and Dodge is not standing behind this issue. I believe a recall will come later after us the customers will have put out lots of our own money first.

I am so disappointed in the quality, the service I received...and they say keep buying North American made!!!!

I've noticed that the Transmission on this van when starting it up and putting into Gear into D or Drive that it clunks into gear. I could start it up on a July Day and wait minute before putting the transmission gear selector from Park to Drive and it would still do the same thing.

I am having a lot of minor issues with this transmission besides this and I am not happy with it. Shift Quality Issues for sure. I've had it to the dealer for the flash update that I got in the mail and a 2nd time to the Dealer @ Glassford Motors Ingersoll but nothing has changed.

Update from Sep 16, 2016: Took the 2012 Dodge Caravan (3.6L / 6spd auto) into the dealer Sept 2016 and explained to their transmission tech what i noticed:

And i didn't properly clarify in the previous complaint that i've posted here.

What happens is you will take the gear shifter and move it from Park, to Reverse, to Drive, back to Reverse, Back to Drive and during that time

there is a Clunk, Bang / Rough engagement of the gear in either Reverse Or Drive.

Sometimes however it will engage softer and sometimes harder.

Talked to a lady in Shoppers Drug Mart (ontario canada) who had the same van and she said she had the same problem.

So anyway they are going to be replacing a UNDERDRIVE COMPOUNDER next week and need the car for 2 days. So i am hoping this solves the rough gear engagement and then the other problem that i mentioned with the banging / rough shifting that i described in the other Section of Complaints Under 2012 Dodge Caravan.

Update from Sep 22, 2016: ---September 2016 update

Had Torque Converter , Underdrive Compounder replaced as well as other parts such as axle seals , internal seals etc after clutch material was found in the tranny pan. 19,500km on van.

This may have solved the rough shifting when going down the road (have to drive it more , just drove home from dealer tonight and that's it)

But as for shifting from park to reverse to drive it did not solve the problem with the 6spd 6T2E auto trans.

I forgot to add int hat section that no Check Engine lights or anything came on when they found the problem with the rough shifting.

Side note: lady at shoppers drug mart told me she has the same problem as i do with the Car clunking into gear from Park to Reverse to Drive.

She didn't have the rough shift/clunk/slam tho that i wrote about in the other section of this website.

Update from May 30, 2017: ------- 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan (CVP) - 3.6L v6 - 6spd auto - 23, 6xx Kilometers - White -----------------------

-Van was bought new June/July 2012 Ingersoll Ontario Canada. -It has an issue where the transmission will Clunk/Thud/Bang when placed in Reverse or even Drive when the car is warmed up a bit. You never know exactly when it will do it.

You experience normal, mild-rough engagement of Reverse & Drive, and basically a Bang/Thud/Clunk that feels like transmission is going to drop out

-Have had it to 2 different dealers & the car has already this month of May 2017.And have a paper trail on this that i have to get a bigger binder. The dealer says they can't find an issue with it.

I found out they have a Star Case on this, which basically admits that these cars have issue....they just use language in what i'd call avoidance language to make you think this is normal. Which i am most certain it is not.

Funny how i was never told about it until last week when i made an appointment at the dealer i bought it in ingersoll with 1 month warranty left.
