really awful
transmission problem
Last night while driving to work, the car suddenly started to make a loud, revving noise when I accelerated. Within a few blocks, it got louder & louder and then I was unable to accelerate at all. Was able to put it in park, but when I switched it into reverse or drive and attempted to drive, the car just loudly revved & did not move forward or backwards at all. During this time, the check engine/MIL (malfunction indicator light) turned on. This all happened within a span of 3 minutes, with absolutely no prior warning signs at all.
The vehicle had been operating with no issues just prior to that. It is a 2012 & has 86K miles on it. I had to have it towed back to the mechanic in my town, who said the transmission is shot. He said it should still be under the power train warranty & suggested I call the nearest Dodge dealer to verify that. I did, and they said it had a 5 yr/100 K warranty, which was now out of date. I asked how that was possible, since we are now at the 5 year mark (2012 model-I bought it 1 yr old used from Enterprise sales-and it's year 5 now,) so shouldn't it be covered for the rest of this year? They said it depends on when it was put "in service" & that was done in March of 2012...so 5 years is March 2017, as in 3 WEEKS AGO. UGGHHH!!!!
My mechanic said he has definitely seen Chrysler Corp. grant extensions/repair coverage before for customers who were just out of their warranty for something major like this & encouraged me to ask about that. I did, and they were very nice but said they looked at their different programs to see if there was anything that could be done, but there was not. I even had her supervisor check as well. No luck. I work with adults with disabilities & need my van for work, and I also have 2 children with disabilities & need to be able to transport them as well. I don't make the kind of $$ to afford another transmission easily at all. Has anyone had any luck, or know of any way, to get the company to somehow cover the cost of the transmission, being that it was SO close to the warranty end period?

So driving van and wouldn't go properly, had to have it towed to Midas to find out what was wrong. Was told that it was the TIPM had that replaced cost $1500, car still wouldn't work properly, had it taken to Dodge and was told that transmission is trashed and would cost an additional $3800.
Van is five years old and this should not be happening. I thought Dodge were the leaders in cars but obviously not. For a car to not even last five years is ridiculous.
