Started whining on driver's side. Two days later then transmission slipped and within 20 minutes of trying to get back home, the transmission was completely shot. Also fried the transmission coolant lines for a total of $3491. There is no dipstick to check the fluid level, even though it wasn't low. Still a giant pain and poor design. At 120k miles, we shouldn't be sinking thousands of dollars in repairs. Not my first Dodge Caravan, but will absolutely be my last.

Grand Caravan Crew 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 120,000 miles

After changing th brakes and oil and cleaning air filter, while driving home on a dirt road I heard a whining noise from the drivers side. Kept going.... Then realized I should stop. Noise comes from accelerating and pressing the gas. Transmission seems to slip and won't engage. Sudden problem with the noise and then total failure to drive forward or reverse. What could t be?

Transmission?

Torque converter?

Transmission fluid or filter?

Unaware of where to start ....
