Grand Caravan CVP 3.3L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 77,671 miles

Several times all electrically operated equipment in our 2010 Dodge Caravan quit working. During a recent heavy downpour our 21 year old son was driving on a major highway in rush-hour traffic when the wipers, defroster, cruise and power windows all quit working. Unable to see out of the windshield or put the driver's side window down he did his best to cross two lanes of traffic and pull over and stop.

Fortunately this very dangerous maneuver was successful and he survived the situation shaken but unscathed.

We took the vehicle into the dealership and they replaced a faulty TIPM.

In researching this matter I see that failing TIPM’s are common among Chrysler products and have been the subject of several recalls in similar vehicles. I also see that our vehicle is on the list of those being investigated by the government for faulty TIPM's and is also on the list of vehicle in a class action suit against Chrysler.

We were very fortunate that our son survived this incident which was clearly caused by a component Chrysler knows to be faulty and subject to failure in highly dangerous situations such as ours.

Because of the circumstances our dealer took $200 off of the price of the new TIPM for us but we still paid over $1,000.00 to have it replaced.

It seems quite unfair that Chrysler should profit from placing us in a life-threatening situation and given the infamous history of this part we feel they should at least reimburse us for repair cost.

We did contact them through their online Customer Contact form but they refused to take any responsibility or pay any of the costs.

Grand Caravan SLE 4.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 97,000 miles

This is the second time this has happened to this vehicle. The first was at about 65000 and was really dangerous because the vehicle would just shut off while driving down the road. This caused the power steering, brakes, etc to become very difficult to use and I almost ran into the back of a large truck. The dealership was unimpressed by my plight and I can't remember how much it cost to get it fixed.

Here I am again at 97,000 miles and now the vehicle will not start at times. It clicks when you turn the key but it's as though the starter or battery is bad. I've had both of those replaced, only to find out that once again it's the TIPM. If you mess with it enough by moving the gear shift, it will finally crank. I have an appointment Tuesday to have it fixed.

It's pathetic when I can diagnose the problem by finding multitudes of like or similar problems on the internet and there is no recall. Gee, what does it take for them to realize their product is faulty!!!

Grand Caravan 3.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 140,000 miles

lights would go on and off. I took it to the dealer Jim Riehl's Friendly Chrysler in Warren MI. After driving home at night with my flashers on for 3 nights. I rented a car and took it to the dealer. After $795.88 for a new TIPM module, my lights worked so I drove home at 3 am after work.

I noticed no speedometer and multiple idiot lights on my instrument cluster were on. I also noticed that when I was getting off the Highway the van would not down shift when I took my foot off the accelerator. Pretty scary situation.

What were they thinking releasing my van back to me in worse shape then when I dropped it off?? I left them messages and they called me back to reschedule an appointment to fix it.Friday the saga will continue,

I can hardly wait to see if they try to charge me more money?

Well first starting having problems with door locks, then wiper, then gas gauge. Seems TIPM is going out. Not a cheap item at all. And who designed to put a major electrical component under a battery box since batteries do have acid in them. Like storing dynamite next to a fireplace. Geez. And here starting spending money on trying to repair a bunch of other stuff only to find out it is the TIPM. Like a fuel pump which had required removal of the gas tank.

When we get something from the back of the car and our hands are full, we push the button to close the trunk automatically and it doesn't work. We have to fumble to close by hand.

Grand Caravan SXT 3.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,000 miles

Nearly crashed in vehicle since it turned off suddenly scaring myself & my children who were passengers in my car. Towed it to dealership because it wouldn't start, was told it was the starter, the battery & the ignition module that would cost $1600 to fix. They repaired that & came back saying now it was also the TIPM & would cost an additional $1200 for parts + labor & the part was on national backorder & could take weeks or months to repair. A very costly repair for dealerships that try fixing other things when they don't know it's this very expensive part!!!

Rear brakes seized at 19881km in may 24 2012

trouble with ignition switch started in april 2014

would not start at times.turn key to start, would not start ,let key go engine starts.

while driving engine cuts out,no indication,no light on dash, all electrical gone.no power steering or power brakes.

went to start van in morning the starter kept running but the van did not start, had to turn key off to get the starter to stop.

It is now sept. 20, 2014 and the van is still not fixed. I have reported this to the service dept in winsor ,ont. but still nothing is done..I have spent 5 months afraid to go on the highway because the van might cut out when there is a tractor trailer behind me which would surely be death for everyone in the van.
