Grand Caravan

  • 99,854 miles
My 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan began having issues about 6 months ago. The ABS light would light up and beep on and off and was taken to the dealership and they stated they could not determine the problem without it occuring at that time. As months went on the problem became worse. All the dashboard lights began turning on and off headlights would dimmer, clock and radio would shut off. Took to a few mechanics and none could determine the problem. The problem got worse battery light began staying lit. We then replaced the battery and the battery cables. The problems persisted, we took to another mechanic who stated the alternator needed to be replaced. We replaced the alternator and the vehicle was fine for three weeks, then the problem started again all the lights lit up, the air went in and out, the radio shut off and out of nowhere the car shut off while about to turn at an intersection with my children in the van. We have taken the vehicle to many different mechanics even the dealership and none of them can determine what is causing this issue. Through the internet I see that we are not alone with this problem. I don't know what to do besides attempt to get rid of the vehicle. This is the vehicle I bought to Transport my children; I've been paying for rental cars because I'm scared to drive it. With as many complaints as I've seen for this issue you would think there should be a recall. Someone is going to be seriously hurt or dead if they don't do something about this.

Sorry if this is a duplicate I was kicked out before I finished. While driving on a number of occasions engine suddenly stopped. Power steering lost, car rolled to stop and was restarted and then driven without problem. When checked we were told it was an ignition switch problem. NHTSA recall bulletin #14V373000 noted this problem but this individual vehicle and probably others are not included in recall. Please check.

Driving at 10-20 mph, warning lights esp abr and tracing icon flash on and off before engine stalls, happens whether turning, or driving straight. Electrical system fails including power steering, radio flashes off, clock goes to 12:00. Often at speeds 35 -65 mph, same lights flash on and off 10 to 15 times in various distances of 3 miles - 25 miles before stalling, driving down a winding, mountain road in heavy traffic at night at speeds between 60-70mph, same lights flashed on and off, the speedometer needle instantly dropped down to zero then quickly flipped up to current speed each time lights flashed, then they stayed on while I pulled off the road, it stalled in park position. Starts up again without hesitation. Once I went 3 miles without incident, upon returning while at a stop light, same warning lights flashed, when the light turned green, engine stalled. I restarted the engine and I was able to proceed through the green light making a left turn, no other stall the rest of the way home. Regardless if I'm turning left or right, going up hill or down hill or on city street, whether the engine is cold or hot or temperature outside is hot, cold, or raining. It is random, having purchased this used vehicle only 4 months ago, driven less than 1000 miles, I don't feel safe as a female senior citizen traveling alone any distance in this vehicle, previous owner had the dealer replace fuel pump and computer (twice). I have replaced the 1 year old battery due to a hot to the touch cable to the battery, not generating the proper amount of power, also replaced the original computer with a new computer which did not resolve this issue. Numerous complaints were told a win or tipm module would fix this problem which it didn't. 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan recall: Ignition replacement. The ignition moves between 'accessories and on' causing engine to stall.

After noticing the ignition switch was not always working, I contacted the dealer and learned there was a recall on the ignition switch. After giving them my VIN # they said they will not replace the ignition switch under the recall. If I want to replace the switch it will be at my own expense. I fill if there is a safety recall for my vehicle it should be at there expense!! please advise.

My van just shut off while doing 55 mph on a highway. No warning signs or check engine lights came on. I had no steering, gas, or breaks when it shut off. The a few days later all the lights on the dash came on then went off but never shut off until a few blocks later when it turned off while driving on a street. And everytime it shuts off I put it in park take the keys out and then restart the van and it acts like nothing ever happened.

While driving the car, the engine shuts off unexpectedly and we lose power steering and brakes. We have to coast to a stop, put it back in park and restart engine and proceed. This happens with no predictability which makes this dangerous. The times that it has happened, the roads have been wet or snow covered. It has also happened on dry roads. Traveling at a high rate of speed makes this a dangerous circumstance. Since it is unpredictable, we are very nervous to take this car on a highway. We have had the car in to shapiro leon motor sales several times and they cannot find anything that comes up on their diagnostics.they did replace the powertrain control module. This did not make a difference. It continued to shut down. There is no rhyme or reason. They have driven it but it did not shut down for them. I got it inane shortly after leaving, it shut down. We know that there was a recall on the ignition switch through June 2010 but our car was manufactured Sept 2010. However all the symptoms that are listed on that recall fit our van's problem perfectly. The dealership does not agree a per their testing. This is not something that we can have happen to us while traveling 65 down the interstate. The only thing that shows up on the dash is the traction control when we lose engine power. Please address this problem.

I have had my 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan for 1 year. First the alternator went out then the key module then the transmission then the shifting harnesses cable and now the lights keep blinking on and off and the van feels like it has no power the battery was just changed a month ago. This has been the worst vehicle ever and we are scared that it is going to cause a deadly accident. The vehicle gets stuck in gears. And and now keeps shutting off and the headlights keep blinking on and off as well as all the lights in the van. If these are know issues why has there not been a total recall on all these vehicles before a deadly accident does happen. Or is it going to take someone to actually die before something is done about all the known issues the makers of these vehicles are aware of.

The van will intermittently fail to start, or it sputters when it starts. Bypassing the fuel pump relay on the tipm module will fix the problem, however it is not a safe permanent solution. Other makes and models have been recalled for the same issue, however the 2010 Dodge Caravan was not included in the recall even though the same defect and problem is evident. This is a bad design and Dodge should stick by their mistakes and provide a fix.

Our 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan stalled 14 times this holiday weekend (more than usual). It stalls at any speed and at any time (warm or cold) and loses all power. Have you ever had to shift a vehicle into neutral at 70 mph and restart it on an expressway in holiday traffic (with no power steering or power brakes)? well it really puts the family in a jolly mood. Dealer claims not to be able to figure it out (because the error codes are not recorded in the vehicle computer since there is no power). Based on all of the exact same complaints I see for this vehicle, it's obvious to me that it's a totally integrated power module (tipm) issue. Any idiot performing a little research on google can figure it out. However, NHTSA can't seem to figure it out. See NHTSA action number: DP14004. NHTSA ' there's enough complaints out there to support further investigation. Feel free to contact me if you want to take our rolling death trap for a fun-filled family trip.

Van intermittently stop shifting while driving (city or highway) and I have to pull over and restart to drive again. Air conditioning blower also goes out intermittently. Lots of error codes reported via obd2 and all are electrical related. Took it to multiple auto part stores and local Dodge dealership, all said it was a faulty tipm.
