Each of the four hubs has been replaced at least once, several have been replaced twice in the 8 years I've owned this vehicle. First you notice a gear-sounding whine at lower speeds, and my first thought was "transmission!" I was relieved to find it was the hub. However when you have to keep going back time after time for the same problem, it gets old quick.

Grand Caravan SE V6

Purchased vehicle in 2008 brand new with 25 miles on odometer. I heard the noise for approximately one year. I thought the roaring noise was coming from the front tires being worn. I could have never imagined that the wheel bearings would be coming apart with less than 26,000 miles on the vehicle.

The van is garage kept and is only driven on family vacations. I have also had to replace the brakes and rotors on all four tires. Needless to say I think the Dodge Grand Caravan is the biggest lemon of all of the new cars I've purchased and I will never buy another vehicle from Chrysler/Dodge. I'm now afraid to put my family in a vehicle that I feel the tires could come off of due to inferior parts that fail with little wear or tear.

We had to replace the bearings and hub assembly in December of 2010 and we just had to do it again last week (July 20104) and it has all been at our expense. Dodge has not paid for it. So we are about $1800 lighter in the pocket due to faulty design on the part of Dodge.

Grand Caravan SXT 3.8L V6

Both wheel bearings went bad and were grinding, making terrible road noise, popping when turning, wearing out the breaks and wearing out the tires fast. Dodge had to re-engineer both wheel hubs and are selling them in PAIRS only, requiring both being replaced at the same time. There are new part numbers for these wheel hubs and only available from Dodge. If you purchase the original part it runs $300, so you have an incentive to replace both.

Since these bearings are due to a flaw in the engineering and can lead to accidents if the wheel comes loose from the vehicle it should be recalled by the manufacturer.

I bought this vehicle in July 2009 from Enterprise Rent-A-Car with 41000 miles on it. It always had a slight noise in the front passenger side wheel. I thought that it needed new tires so I had new tires put on the van. Then the problem kept on so then I had the brakes replaced 3 times over the last 3 years and replaced tires numerous times. Well, needless to say the problem has continued and the noise is unbearable and it is not driveable. I did some research and found out that there was a recall on the wheel and hub bearings for 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan's built between December 1st, 2007 and February 28th, 2008. I said great so I called and found out that since my van was built January 2nd, 2008 and registered in Florida, it doesn't fall under the recall. But if my van was registered in Virginia and Kentucky and above states then it would fall under the recall. WHERE THE HECK DOES IT MATTER WHERE IT WAS REGISTERED????? So then I called the Chrysler Corporation in Auburn Hills, MI and I spoke to a gentleman there and he told me that, I need to take it to one of their dealerships and have a diagnostic done on it and then we could go from there. So I put my life behind the wheel of that van and drove it 40 miles to the Dodge dealership and when they did their test, they informed me that both wheel and hub bearings needed to be replaced and that they talked to their manager and said that it is not covered by warranty or the recall and that it would be almost 600.00 for me to get it fixed. So then I call that gentleman back in Auburn Hills and now they want to open a case on my vehicle. So ok, now I have to wait 1-2 business days for a case manager to get back to me. This whole time I am without a vehicle and no way of getting my kids to school cause we live in the country and they have special needs and can not ride on the school bus for an hour and 45 minutes each way. The case manager finally calls me back 2 days later and informs me that my vehicle in out of warranty and that it is over the warranty by 81000 miles and that there was accident damage to the front of my vehicle so I am on my own with the repairs of the wheel and hub bearings on my van. I said wait a second, the vehicle was already out of warranty when I bought the vehicle then and the accident was only body damage and nothing done to wheels. They didn't want to hear this. She kept on telling me that the case was closed and it was on me to get fixed. So since they told me to take it to their dealership to get the diagnostic done on it then they should be paying the 81.00 but no now they said I had a choice whether or not to take it. I already knew it before I took it there that was what was wrong with the van. So I asked the mechanic, "Is it a manufacture defect or what:?" - his response was "I don't know cause I would have to take it apart and inspect it to find out". Okay so now where do I stand????? I really thought that I was doing something right when I got my settlement and bought myself this new 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan in July 2009 for 17000.00. This was the first newest vehicle I have ever owned in my life and I have owned many Dodge vehicles and never had any problems with, so I was happy with my decision, now I am totally upset and don't know what I am going to do cause I can't afford to get this fixed and I don't know what else to do. I will never buy another Dodge in my life. I just don't see how they can have a recall on something and because your vehicle wasn't registered in a certain state, it doesn't fall under the recall but it was built in the time frame that they say. It doesn't make sense to me.

We had already had both front wheel bearings replaced 6 months earlier, and 13,000 miles ago. Now I am starting to hear the same loud noise again. I am wanting to start wearing ear plugs, I really do not want to know anymore!! Front wheel bearing again, only one this time. The part was covered under warranty, so we only had to labor $97.50. We were able to get the brakes done again too while we were there too! Never again will I buy a Dodge! I sure wonder if the brakes heating up, are heating up the wheel bearings and causing them to go out? We are at 95,000 miles. We did get our money back for the labor on the Wheel bearings about 8 months later under the extended warranty.

Problem started out as an annoying intermittent humming in the front passenger side tire area when we drove 25+mph. Over time the noise occurred every time we drove 25+mph. Dealer initially told us we needed new tires but we received a letter from Dodge "extending" our warranty to 90k miles for our wheel bearings. Took it back into the dealer and they fixed it and the sound is gone.

The car is only two years old and the warrenty have expired. The hub bearing is on backorder from Dodge which tells me that my car is not the only one with this problem. This should be a repair covered by Dodge under a recall. But so far my car is broken and there is no parts to fix it unless I pay tripple from aftermarket dealer. Bad buisness!!!

2008 Dodge Grand Caravan--- The right front wheel bearing assembly wearing out with no replacement parts availabe at all....No where in this United States is there a new factory built replacement part, the factory isn't making any new replacement parts to fix this problem.100 vans sit, undriveable, waiting on the replacement parts,on single unit, can't be pieced together. Now ain't that just grand! NOT!!! We are on the waiting list with 599 other consumers to get the part needed. Why hasn't there been a recall for this? I don't know, but when we checked to see if had warranty coverage,we were informed that the right front wheel bearing assembly unit was only covered to 30,000.00 miles. What a joke!!!! Most wheel bearings last to around 90,000 to 100,000 miles.Where have the American "hard work ethics" gone to? Is there anywhere a consumer can purchase a vehicle that won't fall apart untill hell freezes over? Overseas is no better.Maybe we need to go back to the Horse and Buggy, cheaper to maintain, and fertilizer to boot!!!!

Update from Sep 26, 2010: Well,we finally got the new and improved Wheel Bearing Assembly Units and had the new parts put on the front driver and passenger wheels. The old parts were in very sad shape.Thin metal, round ball bearings and metal flakes coming out around ball bearings. The new part is made out of heavy duty metal and roller bearings, completely reconfigured design, like it should have been in the first place. Now the van drives easier,no more growling or grinding noise, the van turns easier,no more wabbling or jerking of tires on turns or curves.A very quiet drive now, feels like and drives like a new van.Sure we had to buy the parts (sold only in pairs) $156.00 and $200.00 for labor.Yes we had to pay to have the problem fixed because the extended warranty didn't cover the repair even though it was a design flaw in the part that Chrysler Corp made.Go figure.

Not one, but TWO wheel bearing replacements for this piece of junk. How does a car with 50k miles need two wheel bearing replacements? No sooner did I have the right front wheel bearing replaced for $400, the mechanic informed me that the LEFT front wheel bearing is just about history. Again mechanic told me that it's unusual for wheel bearings to go at this mileage..it's usually around 80,000 plus miles. When the vehicle was delivered, the very day, it was delivered, the satellite radio/hard drive thing went kaput. Had to take it in for service the day after we got this van. Then the transmission failed, then the brakes super early, then the first wheel bearing, and now another wheel bearing. Wow, what a great vehicle!

left the service dept for several warranty repairs yesterday, took to get tires rotated at tire shop because thought front tire were making humming/growling noise, tire shop said it was obvious that it was front wheel bearings; drove straight back to dealership service, they said it was probably tires, but switched tires with another van; now back in shop to get front bearings replaced tomorrow; did give loaner car for this repair (shop is 40 miles from home), front brakes about shot and a rotor is looking rough already
