Grand Caravan SXT 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 74,000 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

It started with the left passenger power door not shutting automatically when the power button was used. It would start to close, stop and then open back up. No big deal. After about a year the windshield wipers and control panel lights would flash when that door was opened. We kind of laughed about it being possessed. Another year later the control panel would continue to flash while it was being driven. Finally the front DVD player stopped working. At that point we took it in and the electrical system had to be re-wired. Fortunately that fixed the problem.

This vehicle has extremely bad electrical problems! Auto mirrors adjust themselves, driver side lock control doesn't work, it occasionally turns itself off while driving, it also locks and unlocks itself nonstop while driving. It's very annoying.

Drivers side door lock does not work. All other doors lock as soon as you close any of the doors. Some times the doors will lock minutes after I leave the van. I am concerned about leaving the keys in and have them locked in as I close the door. This needs to be repaired now.

2008 Grand Caravan suddenly has horn blowing, windshield wipers moving, washer fluid spraying. Unable to control door locks. First time it happened when I cycled my headlights on/off while car was in drive on the road. It last about 2 mins before I was able to get it to stop by pulling over and repeatable turning the switch on/off. About 24 hours later it was sitting in a parking lot and did it on its own. In this case the rear door opened as well. It didnt happen again until 5 days later when I went to open the door with the FOB, it went off. I was unable to unlatch the door, but for some reason I was able to open the side door, and put the Fob in the ignition and tried turning on & off, it stopped after about 2 mins. This time it threw a check engine light. The code revealed P0883 code at the local Advance Auto store nearby. I drove home no problem but the next morning the battery was dead and I had to jump it off. Apparently the running lights did not time out as they normally do and may have stayed on all nite. The battery is less than 1 yr old so theoretically it should be good. After I got it running, and placed in reverse to back up, the horn/wiper thing started, shift to Drive and it stops. I drove it up the road (in Drive it was not blowing) and the transmission will not upshift from low (tach reads 4K at 40mph.) Also,I cycle the windshield wipers it also makes the horn blow. After parking the van and cycling the wipers to make the horn blow, I checked the K6 relay and it was chattering. I turned off the van and swapped the K6 & K11 (same p/n relays) restarted the engine and turned on the wipers again, and get the same problem. The Fuse box panel appears to be completely dry (some blogs suggested water deposits.) Also, I removed the battery terminal for 10 mins and reconnected it in hopes of 'rebooting/resetting' the computer. Again I had to jump the van off (as the battery was not recharged from last nite). Once started, I tried turning on the wipers and the horn blows (it blows with a sputter --like a bad connection.) Im going to keep researching. The code P0883 suggest TCM POWER INPUT HIGH, but not sure if that is the cause or a symptom - details here on that code http://www.jkowners.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-72505.html

Over the past few months, our 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan suddenly goes "psycho" with no rhyme or reason. The horn starts blaring, the wipers start going, and the wiper fluid starts spraying everywhere. This has happened several times in traffic and will not stop...much to the chagrin of everyone around us. Lately the problem has gotten worse. The AC stops working and the doors repeatedly lock and unlock while driving. It sounds like an electrical firestorm. We took it into the dealership and they diagnosed problem as faulty TIPM (total integrated power module). We paid for the part but it is on back order with no definite date on its arrival. Seems that everyone else with a Dodge needs the same part. So in the meantime we have the privilege of driving psycho van and we can only hope that the vehicle's electronic gremlins do not affect something that creates a major safety hazard on the road.

sitting in a parking lot with my 3 kids waiting for my husband to come out of store. we had the car running with the a/c on. all of a sudden the horn starts blaring, wipers start going crazy, fluid spewing everywhere! i tried turning off car. nothing happened. it just continued to go crazy. this lasted approx. 2 minutes. continued to try to turn off car but it just kept running. finally it stopped on its own. about 5 minutes later my husband came out of store and we told him what happened. the kids were freaked out. we left the parking lot and the van was revving very high. the transmission was not shifting. we pulled over and turned off car. waited a few minutes, then turned it back on. ran fine for the rest of the day. this happened on a Friday afternoon, so we knew we couldn't get it to a dealer until Monday. drove the 35 miles home.

The Integrated Power Module went bad. The service Manager at Maloy Chrysler Dodge Jeep in Jasper, Alabama informs me that Dodge doesn't make these parts anymore (for a 2008?). Says there's nothing they can do. Car has been there for exactly one month, with no end in sight.

Chrystler has not helped at all. When I offered to purchase the extended warranty (which I did not feel necessary since it had 11 miles on it when we purchased it) Chrysler said they would not sell me an extended warranty with preexisting problems. Really? I have had this same problem occur at least 25 times in the last year and the dealership cannot figure out the problem.
