Took my Caravan into Lithia Dodge for service. It needed new front bushings, a new rack and pinion for the steering, and the auto locks and windows were not working. Oh yeah, the Stow-and-Go handle broke off (my wife is no weight lifter). I asked if it was covered under my extended warranty and was told that it was not. At his point I was boiling mad and called the 1-800 number on my extended warranty card and was told that, yes, everything was covered. I asked for a conference call with the dealer and was hung up on. Five minutes later the dealer called back and "SURPRISE" everything was covered by my warranty (granted that there was a 100 dollar deductible.

This was three days ago. My electric locks failed again today, and this is after I told the dealer that I had read that they needed to flash the control module...which they didn't do. I'll bet they try and milk me for another $100.00 (warranty deductible). I'll never own another Dodge again.

I have owned a Subarau, Suzuki, Two Nissans, a Mazda, and a Toyota - I never experienced problems of this magnitude with any of these cars. The Dodge is my first American made piece of crap - I'll never buy another and I feel I'm getting ripped off by my local dealership. What a bunch of shysters. The fact that my tax dollars are being used to bail out Chrysler infuriates me.

God am I glad to find this site! I wish I would have known about it before. I started having problems with the locks in Nov 2008 big time. At first it just started with the passenger door in August 2008 but then everything went down in November. Took it to the dealer and they said it would cost $115 just to run a diagnostic on it and another $100 or so to fix it. They said the computer probably needed resetting. I'm going to try the fixes I've seen on this site and will call the NHTSA since I've also had a problem with my steering which was covered on a Technical Service Bulletin dated in November 2004. They will not cover it as it is not considered to be a recall. That's going to cost me probably $200 to have THAT fixed.

To the person who is trading her Dodge in for a Mitsubishi: I had a Mitsubishi Expo which was actually a Dodge and had nothing but problems with it. Mitsubishi pulled out from Dodge (probably due to all of Dodge's problems). The only reason I got the Caravan was because of the fold-down seats (thank goodness they're operated manually).

Just adding to the list of people with this problem. I've had the van for over 4 years. Generally happy with it, but disappointed with gas mileage (16) and the fact that a number of pieces of the stow and go seats have snapped off - but the seats still work. All of my problems with the van have been electrical in nature. Now that it is no longer under warranty, they hit me with big fees to repair problems that shouldn't be happening to a fairly young vehicle. The driver window stopped working, that set me back $200 - now the lock problem - as described by many others here. Will try battery fix, then fuse fix and report. Still - if I need a new BCM - Dodge should pay for it in my opinion.

I have read many complaints on ths pertaining to the failure of door locks. I recently purchased the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. This is my third Dodge Grand Caravan. They have all been wonderful, love the space for the family and work use. Shortly after purchasing the 2005 about three days later I got home from work hit the lock button on the remote to lock the doors the horn blew the lights never flashed. Came out the next morning hit the button on the key to unlocked the doors (at this time the lights still weren't flashing). Started off on my to work going down the road noticed the doors weren't locking when I got up to 20 mph as the did the previous day. Hit the interior door lock switch and nothing happened, pulled over to parts store to see if I could find out if the fuse was blown, couldn't figure it out. Luckily the van was under a extended warranty so the dealership where I had purchased the van from had me take it to their mechanic and he put it on the computer. The problem was diagnosed as the Body Control Module. Mind you after putting it on the computer everything started working again for about a day then the same problem occured two more times. After having the Body Control Module replaced with a new one from the dealership the problem seems to have bee fixed (the lights flash, horn blows, doors lock automatically at 20 mph). No further problems. If anyone is having this problem have your BCM checked. The mechanic had tod me that is a common thing on that van.

Today the locks stopped working. I bought some fuses while I was at the parts store and couldn't find the correct fuse until I got on this sight tonight. I just got finished pulling the fuse and it started working again. That is great but it sounds like I will get to do it again in a few days if not tomorrow. Are there any permanent solutions to this? I like a lot of others am not a happy camper with this issue. Especially since no one has a lasting fix. I am glad many others are advising at least a temp. fix

I had this problem last fall 2 months after purchasing this used car. We got a steal o na 2005 with only 28k miles. Thankfully it was still under warranty. If yours is under warranty, take it to the dealer. They totally replaced my BCM and it was a compelte fix to the problem. I had tried the fuse replacement, etc and it worked for a few weeks. The BCM replacement was a true fix!

Until now.... the previous problem affected all my locks. Now I am having an issue with only the driver side sliding door. It will not auto lock. It will auto opn with the remote if it is unlocked, but when I hit lock, all doors lock except that sliding door.

Argh...will try the fuse fix again, but hopefully the dealer will have an answer!

I am so glad that I found this sight. Everyone's story has a part of mine in it too. I didn't even realize that the locks weren't working until about a week after the problem started. The lights would flash and the horn would beep just as if the doors had locked like they were supposed to, but they didn't. I also replaced the battery in my key to no avail but have not tried disconnecting the battery or replacing the fuse. Like many others the manual was of no help in identifying which fuse to look for. I bought this vehicle because my sister-in-law has one and I loved driving it and all the space inside, but since I purchased mine hers has been in the shop twice in the last 9 months for various problems. Sorry Dodge...the first time I have to spend money to fix a problem like this (that shouldn't even exist) I will get rid of this pile of dung and buy a foreign car.
