2001 Dodge ES AWD with 107,000 miles with a whine in the rear end. Took to mechanics who thought the rear drive shaft was out of balance and balanced it for $100. Problem still there. I checked levels in the 2 reservoirs in at the rear end and found the front one empty. Added 19 oz of ATF +4 fluid per Dodge manual in glove box and the noise went away. I checked out the AWD Function and it was not working do to no oil and burned out the unit. Dodge Dealer Cost to repair was $3,300, so repairs were not made. Maybe Salvage yard part will be used in the future.

The Shop did not know there were 2 reservoirs in the rear and only checked the back one! They weren't the only ones to miss it! 2 other shops serviced this vehicle and never looked at it. It is to be serviced every 22,500 miles with new oil. This was never done!
