July 2021 had the vehicle about a month service engine light came on, took to the dealer they cleared the codes and sent us on our way. Nov 2021 went to pass a semi on a hill and sped up to do so, engine service light came on again, engine lost power, engine almost died, sputtered back to life, turned around went back home, vehicle power was derated or severe loss of power, took back to dealership the following day, they diagnosed as an electrical fluke, cleared code sent us away.

May 2022 engine code came on again went back to dealership, they said vehicle needs spark plugs, spark plug wires and a few other parts, Now the vehicle was around 73,000 miles on odometer, no part replacement went to a small shop to have a 2nd opinion about part replacement and they said those parts are still good, that shop cleared the codes. Late Oct 2022 vehicle engine codes came back on went back to small shop had plugs, wires, solenoids, fuel pump, fuel filter and other small parts replaced, cost around $1700 which was way cheaper than dealership, Small repair shop had our Durango for 3 weeks diagnosing the problems, they were also on the phone with Chrysler many times for help.

Got the vehicle back mid November drove it for a week and problems came back, went back to small repair shop, they had for a week and said they have no idea what is wrong with it. Called dealer we bought Durango from they checked it out said it needed some engine computer fuel related part which they replaced, we got it back a week later, drove it for 2 weeks and last week of Dec 2022 check engine light came back on, went back to dealer Jan 9 2023 for appointment. They called on Friday the 13th and said the engine was junk from the cam having grooves worn into it from the rocker arms, cylinders #2 and #4 were not firing, valves were not opening or closing and valves were bent, fuel was coming out the exhaust, engine replaced under warranty, we got our Durango back May 8th, ( yes 5 months and no loaner vehicle to be had even with an extended warranty) May 14th check engine light again, May 15th drove back to dealer, drove up the hill to dealership and the brand new engine almost died completely. Handed vehicle over to dealership they checked it out again and by May 18th they said the O2 sensors and the Catalytic convertor were burned out, Parts not covered under any warranty this time, Only way to burn a Catalytic convertor out is to dump fuel in the exhaust, A problem created by the original defective factory engine. Currently still waiting on parts for repair, Todays date is June 6th 2023.
