Just driving down the road in my 2014 Dodge Durango and the passenger head rest deployed for no reason. My 13 year old son was in seat and it hit him in the head.
Internal plastic parts failed and active headrest deployed and hit my wife in the back of the head. Upon further inspection, the headrest did not deploy, the plastic parts broken causing the headrest to shoot forward. This should be a serious safety recall.
This is a known problem: 2014 Dodge Durango Active Head Restraint Malfunction. This just happened two days ago (8/16/2020) to the driver side headrest of my 2014 Dodge Durango Citadel with 60,000 miles. Nothing provoked the malfunction, as the vehicle was parked.
Passenger headrest safety mechanism released while driving alone in vehicle (heading home from work). Awful metal screeching sound which was highly distracting to driver. If passenger had been in the car, release of the safety mechanism could have caused injury (neck/head) to the passenger. Took vehicle to the local dealership and they claim no knowledge of this kind of incident, stating most likely the result of an accident that happened 2 years previously (Over 50K miles ago). Insurance company found similar (car issues) reported incidents on this website. Not happy with dodge, or my dealership at the moment.
