This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Rear center racetrack led taillight is cracked from factory. It is holding rain water and several led bulbs burnt out and backup camera quit working. To fix you need to purchase the complete unit which is non serviceable only replace for $1000 plus dollars.this is a common problem I found out for the 14 and 15 model years.
I own a 2014 Dodge Durango that has water pooling in the center tail light. I had it replaced 1 year ago and the same problem again. Started collecting water and shorted out. It is an expensive part costing about $1,000. Chrysler will not cover the costs or admit it is a quality issue, although they are on backorder and hard to get. Seams like this is a pretty common problem.
The center lighting panel on the lift gate of the vehicle, is taking on water which can and will damage the led lighting, and could also generate an electrical shortage or in the worst case scenario generate an electrical fire.
When I remote started my vehicle. I came outside to smoke rolling out of my back hatch area. Upon further investigating the racetrack tail light had caught fire.
The lift gate tail lamp housing is full of water because when manufactured the housing was not made to be water tight. This is a very common issue in this vehicle and affects not only the lift gate tail lamp but also other aspects of the vehicle's electrical system. I have several lights that have shorted out because of this issue.
Water pooling inside left side of race track taillight on deck lid, noticed problem at 45,000 miles of use. One element is now burned out resulting in less visibility to other occupants on roadways. Safety issue please address.
Tail light and center lift gate lights are pooling with water and causing dark spots in the track lighting and other lights to fail. There has been no damage to this vehicle. This is the factory light assemblies and there have been multiple complaints of this happening with the 2014 and 2015 Dodge Durango
Water pooling inside race track tail light, my truck barely has 30000 and I've taking it to carmax in laurel, md and they say it's not covered through warranty it should because they should have better race track tail lights to prevent water from going in the light and the light bulb going off
The taillights on this model are called "racetrack" lighting as deemed by Dodge. These lights are all led and run the entire width of the vehicle. Over time, it appears that the material used to construct the assembly develops cracks. The assembly may also allow water to enter the unit and pool. Eventually, this will impact the led components of the unit thereby rendering the vehicle a safety hazard as the taillights will no longer be as effective as designed due to unit failure.
I reside in Massachusetts, where winters can be long and harsh. Either raining or snowing. I purchased my 14 Durango with 29K in mileage back in June and around December I noticed there to be a puddle of water moving back and forth in my left side light that is attached to the tailgate (not the brake light). Maybe a few days later a few of the led lights burnt out and I now have no lights on the side.I have since tried contacting the dealer and the company that I have an extended warranty through and neither of them will fix nor replace the led strip of the racetrack light. The light itself costs aroun $1,000 and I shouldn't have to worry about something like this. I shouldn't have to keep my vehicle in doors while it rains or be concerned about the safety of my daughter if anything were to catch fire due to electric unit hitting water. I have since joined a Dodge Durango page on facebook bringing the matter up and a lot of people have experienced the same issue. This should be a recall and fixed immediately. If dozens upon dozens of people are experiencing this from2014-2016 Dodge Durango's I think something should be done about it. I bought a farely unused car in which I put $4,000 down and now 7 months later I have to pay $1,000 for an entire light strip that should never get water in it? it blows my mind that I have to worry about something like this. Please help us Durango owners.
There is a leak on the led taillights. Water is now trapped inside my taillights. This is causing my taillights to short circuit making it extremely dangerous to brake and drive at night. I have heard from many other 2014 Durango owners that this is a common problem.
Standing water in the race track tail light for the 3rd time in 3 years. Dealer has not found the root cause, just keeps replacing it. Causes the tail lights to flicker on and off.
The contact owns a 2014 Dodge Durango. While raining, water entered into the exterior tail lamps. Due to the water intrusion, some of the tail lamps failed to operate. The contact stated that some water also leaked from the tail lamp area. The airport Chrysler Dodge dealer was contacted and diagnosed that the tail lamp assembly would need to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 28,000. Updated 10/17/17
2014 Dodge Durango citadel 5.7 liter rear racetrack led lighting burned out at lower right side bottom. It appears water has entered and burned out the led bulbs in that area.
Water and condensation is trapped inside the rear brake lights. I think the name of this is called "race track" tail lights. Water is stuck in there and has burnt out one side of my led light. It just sloshes around with no way to escape. The other side is submerged too but hasn't yet burned out. The entire piece has to be replaced and its very expensive. The part is on "national back order". I'm sure it wont pass inspection and I could get a ticket for it. My Durango is not under warranty any more as I just hit the 3 year mark and I am sickened that this part is over $1000. I wish this would be a recall for faulty equipment.
Water and/or condensation in rear lift gate taillight is causing the led light to start burning out. This seems to be a manufacturers glitch as I have seen this in several other Durango's on the road, and a few of the newer style chargers (same exact burning out location). Working with the dealership they have ordered the replacement part (extremely expensive and will fight with Chrysler on this defect) as from a mileage standpoint I am out of warranty, and will attempt further reimbursement for these expenses, however the part was ordered back in the middle of March 2017, and is still on back order as of 4/26/17 with no release date. This sort of back order tells me they know there is a problem and they don't have the supply for all the others with the same issue!
