The contact stated that on several occasions, the mounting bolt used to hold the liftgate open failed to operate as needed, causing the liftgate to slam down unintendedly. The contact stated that he replaced the mounting bolt himself; however, the failure recurred. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 38,000. The VIN was not available.
