This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
To whom this may concern: The axle shaft nut is notorious for rusting badly on these vehicles. Water gets trapped behind the center cap on the wheel and moisture causes the shaft ends and nuts to corrode at an accelerated rate. Mine are almost completely unrecognizable as nuts at this point, and should I have to remove the nuts to service anything (emergency brake components for example) I will end up having to yank out and completely replace my cv shafts. This is a well documented design flaw that may also be the result of inferior metals used to manufacture the axle shafts (fca will never admit that). If my axles were to fail at a high speed of rate, due to inferior metals used by the fca, I would think that would be a design issue that should be covered by the manufacturer. Google "Durango axle shaft nut rust" or "WK2 axle shaft nut rust" and see for yourself. The photos are horrifying. I find this to be very disturbing, and life threatening. This problem was fixed starting with 2014 vehicles, and mine is a 2013. I would like to have this problem resolved, as it would be much easier for you all to fix this rather than fix a lawsuit if I have a vehicle failure. Recently I had a flat tire. I pulled out the jack supplied by Dodge, when attempting to raise the car the jack was rigid. When I raised the car I took the car's tire and placed it under the vehicle, while I was bringing the spare tire down, the jack gave way and the car landed on top of the tire I had just removed from the car. Thanks, that I had placed that tire there, otherwise the car would had fallen on me. I went to the dealership to have the jack replaced and they say that is not included in the warranty. Reading Dodge warranty from their home page they say everything is included, except for tires and wireless headphones. My car is under warranty and no one wants to solve this problem. NHTSA should open an investigation on this regards, I am sure I am not the only one with this situation.
Vehicle has less the miles on it. Vehicle low tire pressure light came on. There was excessive vibration in the wheel and body which caused passengers and vehicle to shake. Dash board indicated that all 4 tires needed air. Took vehicle to have proper air pressure added to tires. Vibration remained. Made appointment at bosak Dodge in merillville Indiana. Service writer informed me I may have to pay for service if they didn't find anything. Got called next day that the TPMS light was back on and they added air but found no vibration. I informed service writer that the light was not on when I dropped it off. He informed me it was a common issue. Don't agree.
