As I was driving around 40 mph, my 2013 Durango-Crew (5.7 L Hemi) shut down completely and went out of electricity. There was odor like a plastic burning coming from the engine as well from under the front seat where the battery is situated. It was really scary that a car can just shut down while on the go with no warning and I am left struggling to pull over while losing the power steering and seriously worried about my own safety as well as others' on the road and being afraid that I might be hit from behind in an extremely busy road in the middle of the day.
I managed to pull to the side of the road and needed to tow the car to the nearest repair while the car and towing were awfully blocking the traffic. The problem was diagnosed as an over-charging of the alternator which went faulty and unfortunately SHORT CIRCUITED the Control Unit (the vehicle Computer!). The car has not yet been repaired because I still need to contact the dealership as I found out that there was a recall (no. T36) that TYPICALLY describes the problem the car has been through. Yet I have never been notified of this recall, and having entered the VIN this recall does not seem to cover my car!!
