CarComplaints.com Notes: When the 3rd-generation Durango was introduced in 2011 owners almost immediately started having a wide range of issues -- from water pump failure to stalling engines. Turns out the TIPM is to blame and those problems carried into the 2012 model year.

TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Modules) is responsible for controlling and distributing power to all the vehicle’s electrical functions. So when the TIPM starts acting up, so do all sorts of problems in the vehicle.

The problems have been so bad -- and replacement parts became so hard to find -- that a class-action lawsuit was filed against Chrysler focusing on the 2011-2012 Durango. The lawsuit accuses the automaker of ignorning the problem until it spiraled out of control.

First the air bag light, then it was slow to crank. Was told it was the battery! Left the dealership with a new $500.00 repair, turned the car off, same problem! Now I'm told it's the TIPM module. Supposedly they wear out at around 50,000 miles. Chrysler knows this but refuses to recall the part!

Durango Limited V6

I'm fed up with this truck. In June, the Dodge dealer had it for a week and could not "replicate" the problem, which is basically, I push the "start" button and it continues to try to turn over, by itself, for up to 30 seconds. All other power works in the car at the time. Sometimes it turns over on it's own for up to a minute. After 10 minutes it will start. Then sometimes after driving the car, it won't turn OFF. I was given the car back without them fixing it, diagnosing the problem, or providing some sort of solution. In July it happened 7/4 (I have video) on 7/12 and 7/18. The truck is completely unreliable. The dealter (Beyer Dodge Morristown NJ) says that the cannot accept a video, that they need to have the truck do it under their care in order to figure out what it is. That means dropping it off and then maybe/maybe not starting it once a day until it happens. They know exactly what's wrong with it, I know it - -there's too many stories online similar to mine. They suggest I call Chrysler.

TIPM cost $1300 to fix, not on extended warranty or Dodge warranty. Part took over week to be in stock. Car could have stalled on fwy or someplace else, unsafe!!

Durango R/T 5.7L V8

Well, add me to the issues everyone is having with this electronic module TIPM. I bought this Durango for $45000 because I wanted to help restart American auto manufacturing and I really liked the new looks of the vehicle. The issue with it not starting pretty much started after we had it a few months. Now, I get a call from my wife saying she can't get to the doctor because the thing won't start this morning trying to use my key and hers both. I do not have $1200 to get it fixed. So I have a $45000 boat anchor sitting in my garage this morning that I still pay $644 a month on.

Nothing makes me madder than a pos vehicle. If I can some how borrow the money to get it fixed I will drive it to the closest Toyota dealership and trade it in, which I should have bought the 4 Runner to begin with. Dodge I may let this go and give forgiveness if you can help me get this thing fixed. If not you'll go down with FORD 1999 Mustang Cobra Convertible as the worst vehicle I have owned.

Update from Jul 29, 2014: Well I had to replace the battery. Dealer wanted $270 for a battery. I called autozone and they were $185, Sears $150. The battery had a short internally. I hope that the battery was all there was to this. I know that I have had issues with this thing cranking correctly in the past. Not just a battery issue then. Time will tell I guess. Oh and it wasnt under warranty. You would figure a battery would be under some separate warranty and could be prorated. Thanks Chrysler. This Durango really looks good but I am worried now about that electrical module.

Update from Jul 30, 2014: Well we changed the battery that had a dead cell for $185. The vehicle fired up. However, this morning the vehicle wouldnt start again but it was turning over like it wasnt getting fuel. This is causing missed worked days. It finally started after multiple attempts. I am back to thinking this TIPM module is the cause. Just talked to the dealership and they said they need to diagnose the issue. I am out of warranty at 42 or 43000 miles on the vehicle. Guess I should have bought it on an American made vehicle. Dont get me wrong I really like this 2012 Durango R/T. I just wish it didnt have any issues like my 10 year old Honda Civic. Now my wife wants to drive my car instead hahahaha.

Our Durango is a replacement for a previous lemon already. The vehicle will not start and when it does it dies. I have video and pictures of all complaints. These vehicles with TIPM modules are unsafe and not road worthy. Chrysler has know about this for years. I have many case numbers on the issues with our vehicle, Chrysler will not back their very own product. I have full warranty and platinum extended warranty. I still can't get a rental car.
