CarComplaints.com Notes: When the 3rd-generation Durango was introduced in 2011 owners almost immediately started having a wide range of issues -- from water pump failure to stalling engines. Turns out the TIPM is to blame and those problems carried into the 2012 model year.

TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Modules) is responsible for controlling and distributing power to all the vehicle’s electrical functions. So when the TIPM starts acting up, so do all sorts of problems in the vehicle.

The problems have been so bad -- and replacement parts became so hard to find -- that a class-action lawsuit was filed against Chrysler focusing on the 2011-2012 Durango. The lawsuit accuses the automaker of ignorning the problem until it spiraled out of control.

In addition, the contact mentioned that the interior lights remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering column control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure and the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14V636000 (electronic stability control). The failure mileage was 79,000.

I had an alternator replaced after my car completely died while driving in November. I found out that they put in a similar part but didn't put in the official replacement part until 8 months later. I could have had the car for again and put myself and son in danger if it would have happened on the highway like the first time. Now they are finally doing it but didn't tell me it wasn't complete until I brought my car in for another issue. During that time I started getting a bad key message and the red security system dot on my indicator panel wouldn't shut off. At times leaving me stranded and wouldn't start. I took it in 3 weeks ago and they said they fixed it. Then out of the blue it started happening again and I had to request a tow since it wouldn't start. They are saying it's the win module., but I am not convinced. I want to know if this can be an effect of the alternator zapping the system when my car died and all the electrical components went haywire. It zapped my battery and it had to be replaced. The same win module in my car that is in other makes and models has been recalled in several other cars but not mine. This needs to be looked into.

The engine turned normally but it seems like the fuel is not reaching the engine. It almost seems like a flooded engine. I researched it online and it seems to be an known issue with this car. The tipm (totally intergrated power module) seems to be the issue.

When the gas pedal was pushed down to accelerate there was a high pitched whizzing sound that was associated with every rev of the engine. After driving approx. 8 minutes the battery light came on the dash panel. Took the car to a repair shop and the battery was replaced. After replacing the battery, it was deemed the alternator was bad and in need of replacement. The alternator was replaced the next day and the problem was fixed. Dodge currently has a recall (P60) on Durangos from the same years as ours. However, Dodge says my alternator does not fit the recall because it is 180 amp and not 160 amp. When the alternator was replaced, there was a backorder on the alternator that fits my Durango. I found this ironic and questioned why there would be a shortage of alternators if this type wasn't experiencing failures. My issue fits the same symptoms as many other Dodge owners. I feel the alternator was bad and perhaps this is just one of many that Dodge isn't recognizing at this time. There is no recourse as of now through Dodge but I want to make someone aware of this issue to prevent someone from dealing with the same issue. If we would have driven too far the car may have shut off and caused a hazard on the roadway. I feel this is too new a vehicle to have such detrimental failures. Dodge has been of very little help. In fact, Fiat Chrysler made it abundantly clear that my vehicle did not fit the recall and when I asked why a group of people had to be affected to care there was no response. Please do not let this die! thank you for your time.
