Vehicle bought used with about 52k miles Dec 2014 Owned ~9 months (2012 Durango Citadel / Hemi 5.7L// awesome vehicle when it is running correctly) Me = prior aircraft Mechanic

Vehicle operating fine for about 8 months since last critical failure. Cam system. @54k. in shop for 3 weeks (Not reported here but fixed by dealership with no complaints)

5 months since the exhaust manifold bolt failure @58k ( $1200.00+) repair estimate and sat at dealership for 3 days/// repaired at home for ~$45.....(previously reported on this site)

Currently also has the random (more frequently occurring) failed start due to the engine control system. Which is on a recall for the fuel pump bypass. awaiting parts for over 4 months (not reported yet due to it does eventually start)

This incident..(Less than 65k) Coolant pump shaft seal failed on (8/24/2015) while leaving the house in the morning and drained all of the coolant up to the level of pump output shaft. Under hood area covered in coolant. Coolant partially refilled to move vehicle to a wrecker. Drained out almost as fast as it was replaced. Vehicle towed to dealership across town. (Not safe to drive due to possibility of other damage and/or safety issues) I was advised dealership is about 2 days behind on the cars coming in.

Vehicle had been sitting at the dealership with a puddle of coolant under it since Monday afternoon awaiting conformation that the pump failed. I was advised on Friday they should be able to look at it on Saturday. I was advised to expect a possible 5-10 day wait for parts.

It would have been nice to have someone look at it Tuesday or Wednesday and at least get the parts ordered.

Start it and see where all the coolant is spraying out.........(pump /pulley shaft . I did,it took about 2 minutes)

Dealer keeps telling me they don't know if the item will be covered....(less than 65.000 miles) Water pump is listed as a direct item covered in the factory 100k or 5 year extended warranty..(Factory Dodge Power-train warranty)

Maintenance adviser at the dealership has been very nice tho!! This has been the most troublesome newer model used vehicle I have ever owned. It has been in the shop for over a month since I bought it. ~9 months ago. I am making plans to trade this thing off, before the extended warranty expires.
