CarComplaints.com Notes: When the 3rd-generation Durango was introduced in 2011 owners almost immediately started having a wide range of issues -- from water pump failure to stalling engines. Turns out the TIPM is to blame and those problems carried into the 2012 model year.
TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Modules) is responsible for controlling and distributing power to all the vehicle’s electrical functions. So when the TIPM starts acting up, so do all sorts of problems in the vehicle.
The problems have been so bad -- and replacement parts became so hard to find -- that a class-action lawsuit was filed against Chrysler focusing on the 2011-2012 Durango. The lawsuit accuses the automaker of ignorning the problem until it spiraled out of control.
Each day as I would trolley the kids off to school, scurrying to get to work on time, as they would exit the passenger door as soon as the door was closed, like clock work as I drove away it would read key has left the vehicle; I'd come to a halt and roll the passenger window door and yell to my kids "Did you accidentally take the key?" With embarrassment they would screech of course not; leaving me to believe I was suffering from some type of lunacy because I knew I held the key fob and why would they do such a thing. Once it became a part of our morning routine I finally discovered it's not me, it yet another issue with Boobie. My friends found this to be unbelievable because when I went to prove myself it would not happen, so out of embarrassment I let it go. No one could wrap their heads around a new car doing such a thing-I'm just happy to know I am truly not crazy.
Push start button car will not start and the information screen says key FOB not found. Keys are sitting right next to me in my purse. Happens too many times to mention as well as the battery being replaced numerous times!!
Update from Jun 10, 2015: Happens on a regular basis. Key will be in my purse I will have to take it out and the car might find the key FOB. I have had to change the battery 5 times since I owned the car.
