CarComplaints.com Notes: The third generation Durango is plagued by a defective TIPM, particularily in the 2011 and 2012 model years.
TIPM, which stands for Totally Integrated Power Modules, is responsible for controlling and distributing power to all the vehicle’s electrical functions. So when your TIPM goes haywire, bad things start happening. Things like your water pump can stop working, your engine can stall out and your airbags can randomly deploy.

I am the second owner of this car bought with 1400 mi on it. Since that time (2012) it has endured more recalls and time in the shop than I can remember. This car has been nothing but problems from leather ripping, to cruise control going out, to heated seats malfunctioning, to hood joints rattling, to ignition problems, fuel pump relay, corrosive brake parts, to the most recent check engine light which turned out to be O2 sensor to the tune of $250 to fix. I love my Dodge. I love the appearance, I love the fit and finish, the feel and comfort... but this car is a LEMON! Now this weekend my airbag sensor light came on. It did go out for a brief 5 miles, but came back on and has stayed on. Of course it is not affected by the Takati recall and it out of warranty. I did purchase an extended warranty from the dealer when I purchased the car that takes me to 10 years 120k miles.... sadly it specifically excludes Airbags! It is sitting at the dealer now waiting for the estimate but $200 is the diagnosis cost. Oh and while it's there, they will fix the last recall of the Sun visor wiring that can cause my car to catch on fire. WTF Dodge!!! this is the first and will be the last Dodge I will ever own. I never had issues like this with Ford or GMC. Dodge has replaced all of the wiring harness prior to this just a year ago. I am really hoping this turns out to be related to that and that Dodge will cover repair/replacement of my airbag. Of course it's paid for, or I would get rid of it.
