CarComplaints.com Notes: The third generation Durango is plagued by a defective TIPM, particularily in the 2011 and 2012 model years.

TIPM, which stands for Totally Integrated Power Modules, is responsible for controlling and distributing power to all the vehicle’s electrical functions. So when your TIPM goes haywire, bad things start happening. Things like your water pump can stop working, your engine can stall out and your airbags can randomly deploy.

I had just started driving on the freeway when my dash started dinging and my temp went from cold to extremely hot so I pulled over.there was plenty of oil and water in it(I double checked).I started it up again and it went cold again, as I started driving to the nearest exit off the freeway a few noments later to have it looked at, it all of the sudden it woundnt let me give it gas.it slowed way down in the middle of the freeway.I got it off the freeway eventually it went back to normal then quickly started to make an awful sound.I stopped the car again for the fourth time and opened the hood and hot smoke vame out.after I let it cool for 2 hours on the side of the road it woundnt start.it wanted to but no fuel was getting to where it was suppose too.I had it looked at and no blown rod.they said ot looked like something to do with the fuel something or other.I had it tolled to my home 335 miles away where it sits broke and it cost me $300 thu aaa.two days later on 8/17/18 I get a recall notice on the brake booster and alternator diode thermal fatigue.the problem I have is my car almost caused a huge multi car collision on I 30 in tx. And it stranded me in a bad neighborhood..

Recall T36 2011 Dodge Durango while driving, my Durango began losing power. When I pulled over and lifted the hood, smoke was pouring from the alternator. It was towed to a mechanic, who informed me that the alternator burned up and my 3 month old battery was now dead. After the battery and alternator were replaced, it was discovered that the power control module was fried and would need to be replaced.

While driving after a 30 minute commute and entering stop and go downtown morning commute traffic, (slow, driving on city streets bumper to bumper traffic) my Durango began to smoke from the engine compartment into the cabin. No warning lights came on during the entire experience. All temp gauges showed normal. The car became increasingly hard to drive, feeling transmission slippage. More smoke came from out of all sides of the hood. Upon exiting the vehicle and checking the hood, I could see fluid coming out from under the passenger side front engine compartment - towards the front of the car. When I lifted the hood, the engine was fully involved in flames. I dropped the hood closed and ran to the other side of the street. Withing 15 minutes the entire front end of the car was burned out, hood and various other parts melted. Car had to be totaled by the insurance Agency.

I have had many problems with my 2011 Dodge Durango. I bought it in 2012. Since then it's been in and out of the shop. I think if I'm bot mistaken its been service more then 10 times. They have replaced the tipm in the past. Well it's been a while but recently it started acting up again. I was driving and all the guages on the dashboard went crazy. Turning off and on all the warning light started turning on and off also. My windshield wipers turned on also. The heater turned on I couldn't turn it off. As I was driving I couldn't even control the steering. It was the scariest thing like my car was possessed. This is unbelievable that a vechicle you so much money can just do this. I was scared for my and my children's safety. And there was nothing I could do. I tried my best to stay calm and I just foced on getting home. Which is where I was headed. I made it home parked in the drive way. NY car barely cleared tge sidewalk into the driveway and wouldn't move any farther. It was making an ugly loud rumbling noise. And it started smoking alot out if the exhaust. It shut off and hasn't turned in since then. I sat there trying to caln down because my adrenaline was going from being scared for my children. And also my extended warranty has expired so any repair cost will have to be paid out of pocket. I remember when I told my husband I wanted a Dodge Durango. Because it was my dream vehicle. Now it's more like a nightmare. If my friends ask if I like my Durango and if I would recommend they buy one I tell them no. This is sad because we have always been a Dodge family.. and now im sitting at home with no vehicle to get my kids to school. And I can't even get to work either. Money down the drain. You would think Dodge would make a dependable car for their loyal customers.

I was driving along the highway and the truck suddenly jumps into 4lo, so I toggle with the AWD transfer case switch, and after a few minutes of doing so it finally starts driving right. It happened with my wife and son, and they were almost wiped by a 18 wheeler when it jumped into 4lo and slowed down abruptly and then just died on the highway, this has happened a number of times, now the transfer case is damaged, and the transfer case switch is no longer available because they are faulty. It got so bad that it stopped changing gears, it would only go to park, but it wouldn't engage because of the switch cancelling out the transfer case motor.

Car wont run I switch the key on it sounds like the engine entirely shaking and it just sounds like its going to start but it doesn't it shuts off on it's own. I got this car from carmax summer of 2014 I'm still paying for it every month I've fixed it out of pocket for the alternator. Which was one of the recalls it had. I took it about two months ago to the Chrysler center near by and had even more various recalls taken care of. I'm really disappointed that this time I called and checked in with the Chrysler center I took it to is saying there's no new recalls on my car. I shouldn't have to pay monthly for a car that I cant depend on its now sitting in my driveway. I need help.

My car has been unexpectedly been shutting off while driving in the middle of roads for at least the past two years. Maybe about five times now. And now hat I think of it, at least two of those times I was turning or attempting to.took it in while my extended warranty was valid and they said it isn't covered. Even if not, this is so dangerous! if I hadn't of recognized the problem this morning, I would have been creamed by about ten cars coming my way. The fcw light comes on and the entire vehicle shuts off. I have done the cleaning thing and obviously they know at the dealership this is an issue but I don't know what else to do. Is it going to take someone being plowed into in order for them to have to fix it?

May 2017 my daughter was driving her 2011 Dodge Durango with 68K with two kids in the car, the battery light came on and then went completely dead shortly after. We got it to an electrical shop to find the battery was dead and the 180 amp alternator had stopped operating. After some researching I found a recall (P60) and it only applied to 160 amp alternator. I called Chrysler (case #31556595) to see if they could help and was denied. We had to pay for the repair which cost me $400.44. I feel this is a safety issue that should be included in the recall.

Several times a week with no specific time of day, heat outside, drive time etc., my 2011 Dodge Durango will act like it will start and it will continue to turn over and over until it finally stops. Eventually after a few tries, it will start. We changed the battery thinking maybe it was that, but nothing...I have read a few "complaints" that have had the same thing and they are saying it is a tipm problem. My vehicle isn't under the recall list, but it is within the year they are recalling it.

Dodge Durango was starting with issues 1 month ago with turning on. When pushing the start button it would make the sound as if trying to turn on but could not turn on completely. After 4 to 5 times of continuous pushing the start button, it would finally turn on, but than at times it would shake and shut off right away. While driving the Durango Sunday, I approached a stop sign, made a complete stop, than pushed the gas to go, but the Durango would move. I pushed the gas several times but nothing happened. I turned the Durango off and it would not turn on anymore. Very unsafe. The mechanic said he believes it is the tipm but will be running more test. I've read several reviews of this same issue. It needs to be addressed.

On no 1, 2016 when I was going at work, I was driving on West park hwy (houston, tx), and suddenly my car stopped working in the middle of the road, all the system has stopped working, and the front car started smoking (burn, & fire). And I survived by the grace of god. I call the towing services so as to move the car from the hwy to my house. And I can't really tell you what exactly happened. But the constancy is, my car is not drivable until now. And my insurance company sent some expert so as to assess the risk, and they told me what happened is the defect of the constructor (Chrysler group llc), because there are more than 300 hundred cases of complaints similar with my explanations. And from this day to now, I am traumatized by this incident. It is the reason that I am writing to you so as to solve this hazard or main issue. And actually my car is parked at home (15770 bellaire blvd, #2107, houston, TX77083). My insurance claim number is: State farm: 53-0079-5S5. N.B.: I also attached the towing receipt issued by the towing services.

My VIN number is not on the recall list for recall P60. But my truck just had to be towed due to battery light coming on and about 20 mins later smoke coming from the hood loss of power steering them a dead truck with a key stuck in the ignition. While driving before any of this happen there was a lack of motion on the truck it did not want to go. The computer system started to malfunction flashing on and off telling me to buckle my seat belt, which I had mine on and so did my children! now I'm having to pay a deductible because mine VIN is not listed with the recall P60. All the signs point to this recall I am not happy

I had a battery light in the morning, but my battery was new. As I was driving my air conditioning stopped working, my radio screen flashed, went off and the entire car died while in motion, I barely stopped in time. The engine wouldn't even try, and me and my two infant children were stranded in the middle of a busy street in 100 heat. The police officer had to help us, we called a tow truck to take us home. The mechanic who looked at the car said the alternator internally grounded and fried the computer and the battery and explains the burning smell just prior to the car dying.

Upon starting the vehicle in a parking lot, a dead short permanently damaged the alternator and the alternator permanently damaged the battery. This issue was sudden and without warning. The car was running fine prior to this occurrence. The short was serious enough to cause a fire, although a fire did not occur. I was told this was a fortunate bit of luck. I have been informed that there is a recall for this exact issue in other vehicles in the same model year, however my vehicle is not included at this time. I had to pay a significant amount of money for this issue (diagnosis, parts and labor).
