CarComplaints.com Notes: The third generation Durango is plagued by a defective TIPM, particularily in the 2011 and 2012 model years.

TIPM, which stands for Totally Integrated Power Modules, is responsible for controlling and distributing power to all the vehicle’s electrical functions. So when your TIPM goes haywire, bad things start happening. Things like your water pump can stop working, your engine can stall out and your airbags can randomly deploy.

Just trying to take myself home from my parents. It happened first at 09/18/2021, the vehicle wouldn't turn over, no flashing lights, no car engine light - the car wasn't hot, the temperature was fine (still). It turned over and was able to drive home. The following week, 09/21/20 it did the not turning over thing, just a click - all lights and battery are fine but it wouldn't turn over.

I tried several hours later and it worked, so I told my husband to check the car and he didn't know what to do. I tried to start the car this morning to drop off my daughter to her preschool and the car wouldn't turn over. I read the owner's manual and followed steps to self diagnose. Now the engine light is on and it still won’t turn over just a click, all lights work, there is still power to the vehicle, just won’t turn over.

Reading the above comments, I am glad the vehicle didn't stall while on the highway nor stall while just driving or catch on flames. I will see if my vehicle can be replaced. But I highly doubt it. This blows, we still owe about $8000 on this vehicle.

Durango Citadel V8 5.7L Hemi

I left work today and it took 3 tries to start my car. It was hesitant and felt like there was no power when I was pressing the gas pedal. I shut it down and on the third time, it started - so I proceeded home and mentally told my self I need to call the dealer tomorrow. Well, my son and I stopped and picked something up to eat and the car would not start back up. At that time, I noticed the ETC warning light on. So I called the dealer and told them it was being towed to them, and I called a tow truck. I have been reading a lot of stories of consumers with the same issue and am wondering why Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep have not issued a recall on this. It appears as if all of our issues happen around the same mileage on the car and have very similar symptoms, and when fixed, looks like everyone fixed the same thing - so if there is something faulty, and we are paying 35-40k for our vehicles, why isn't this corporation paying for this faulty part? I feel I was very lucky that my car didn't shut off on the highway on the way home during rush hour, like other stories I have read. Safety is indeed in jeopardy with this issue and Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep really needs to step up and not wait until there are fatalities. I will find out tomorrow what the damage is to my wallet - since the service dept was closed by the time my car made it to the dealer. Can someone please explain to me why no one from Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep has addressed this? Or have they? Do our complaints actually make it to this corporation? Do we know if this is a part of a bigger issue?

About a week ago my 2011 Durango started roughly on two occasions, I thought the engine was just cold. This week I filled the tank at the gas station and it would not start up at all, I thought it was a fuel pump issue. For the last two days it has gotten harder to start. It just keeps cranking over and over without starting, taking up to 20 attempts before it turns over, sometimes it will start and die while driving. I have my family in the car all the time and sometimes just my wife and baby girl is driving in the car, I would hate to have to sue Chrysler (and obliviously win, by the number of complaints) for a an accident that can be prevented by a recall.

I am a brand loyalist, I love all Dodge products however, I'm not willing to pay $1200 for a TIPM that they know is faulty, and everyone that has a 2011 has the same complaint.

They need to do better!

Durango Crew V6

Came home from a long day of work. Turned vehicle off and it wouldn't start back. Brakes like they had locked up and the stern wheel was also. After about 10 minutes the vehicles started. I was using the push buttton. Drove vehicle home and had no problem. Woke up the next morning no problem, drove vehicle to work and went out about 3 hours later and had same problem. Except this time the vehicle never cranked and and the day before it crank but engine just keep turning.
