TIPM, which stands for Totally Integrated Power Modules, is responsible for controlling and distributing power to all the vehicle’s electrical functions. So when your TIPM goes haywire, bad things start happening. Things like your water pump can stop working, your engine can stall out and your airbags can randomly deploy.

We attempted to start our vehicle, but the engine would not start. After several minutes vehicle started but stuttered, as if their was no fuel going to the engine. There had been no engine or service lights at the time. I researched the issue online and found that many Durango and Cherokee owners have experienced similar issues, and the cause was the tipm. I took my vehicle to the dealership and they tested it, and found it was a problem with the tipm, which was failing to engage the fuel pump. Luckily our car was parked at the time the problem started. My wife generally drives this vehicle with my two small children. Our warranty ended at 36000 miles, so it was not covered. My options were to replace the tipm for 1200 dollars, or pay 428 dollars to have an external relay installed to bypass the faulty tipm (Chrysler star case #[xxx]). we chose to have the bypass installed. Vehicle is running fine at this point, but we are worried other issues (air bags deployed etc) will be a future problem. Went to start my 2011 Dodge Durango citadel.... it would not start. It has 62000 miles on it. Had it towed and was told it was the tipm module. It would cost 1250. Not covered under my warranty. I found out that a lot of these cars are having the same problem. Called Chrysler they have washed their hands of it. They did give me a case number in case it does get enough complaints and then they will recall it. Meanwhile I am out the money.
Tipm module faulty. Vehicle hard starts when cold. Not covered under Chrysler 100000 mile extended warranty. Almost all 2011 - 2012 Jeep/Dodge affected. This is bogus and needs to be recalled!
The issue started with intermittent issues when starting the vehicle (the vehicle would crank, but never turn over) in addition to other problems such as random puttering while driving and the horn going off for no apparent reason. On the date that the vehicle had to be towed to a Dodge dealer, I was unable to get the vehicle to start at all. The dealership's service department discovered that the issues were due to a defective tipm. Upon researching this part, I discovered that this is an extremely widespread issue for this vehicle and that there was actually a national shortage of the part for several months due to the overwhelming number of failures resulting from this defective part. Despite multiple class action lawsuits and the high number of reported incidents, Chrysler has taken no action up to this point to recall the part.

After several instances of the car not starting for no apparent reason (I have push button ignition), I suspected an electrical problem. Today, upon arriving home and shutting my vehicle off and exiting I found that my vehicles fuel pump did not shut off. It continued to run for 3 hours, until I pulled the fuse that controls the fuel pump. This is not an uncommon problem with Chrysler tipm in 2011 Durango models, as well as other Chrysler models using the same module. The danger that a defective tipm presents is quite significant, especially to those who use their SUV to Transport their small children. It is incredibly unsafe to not address the faulty nature of a system that controls the electrical stimulus of a vehicle, and could potentially deploy airbags in a non life threatening scenario or stall the engine, or present another defect at an inopportune time that would result in injury. The auditing of these defective systems should be a priority and I most definitely do not feel safe transporting my family in this vehicle, given the high volume of complaints against the electrical and tipm system. Chrysler has a responsibility to investigate these issues and rectify the problems that their negligence has presented to trusting consumers. I thought the automotive industry realized that safety over profits was of monumental importance, not only for their profit margin but for their reputation. I'm pretty sure no one has forgotten the Ford pinto, it is a prime example in all business management literature of how not to operate in an ethical manner. Chrysler is openly neglecting the responsibility they have to provide a reliable product to their consumer, as proved by my inquires to their organization. Tipm is defective, it needs to be replaced on a mass scale, and Chrysler ignores the potential and actual damages.
The truck will not turn over or start. It has been towed to the shop 3 times due to this. Noticed that when the truck does not want to start, the truck is having issues with changing gears - example is going into reverse, there is a huge thump, the truck will not move, and then all of a sudden will go when it wants to. Then the starting issues begin. Once that truck is not in the "mood" to start, it will not do anything for me. The battery is good because all accessories come on, but the truck will not turn over. The shop does not give me a reason for the issue, but just tries different things. One was transmission flushed, the other was a computer reset and it's in the shop again while I wait to figure this one out.
When the key is put inside the ignition, it takes a couple of tries for the engine to start (if at all) after failing multiple times. After it starts, sometimes the engine shuts down completely when I am driving at 30+mph and when I hit a stop sign/red light! this is very dangerous and needs to be fixed!
I have taking my truck to the dealership 3 times now and still have a starting issue. They replaced the win module and that did not work. They read some codes from it and did nothing. I was making a right hand turn from a light last week and I went to hit the gas and the SUV just stalled. Also the other day I was sitting in line at a drive through and it just went off. It is very hard to get it to start 95% of the time. It takes me 10 to 15 mins every morning to get it started.
Defective tipm. I'm posting these comments shortly after receiving a call from my local Dodge service center advising me of the cause of my vehicle not starting. If this is a problem that has been experienced by many Chrysler owners (tipm), then I find it shameful that Chrysler has not implemented a fix. Fortunately I have an extended warranty to cover the repair, but I dislike having to use it for a known problem. Updated 4/24/2015
Vehicle does not start. And, when it starts it stalls. Totally integrated power module is faulty and does not send electricity to the fuel pump, thus starving the engine. After a month the car is totally unusable.
Vehicle extremely hard to start - can spend over 10 minutes pushing start button with no success. Fuel pump remains on when vehicle is off and parked. I am not comfortable driving this vehicle with these problems, as I can be stranded anywhere when the vehicle won't start.
From the purchase of the Durango I have had issues with the key fab not being recognized, not starting, and the rear camera not working. Three weeks ago I put the car in reverse and it started turning over (trying to start again, while on). Since its a push button start I tried to turn it off and tried for about 5 minutes before it finally would go back into park and turn off. I have been in contact with two dealers for the duration of the issue and both have either ignored the problem or charged me to fix something. The most recent was having a "no start situation" where the fuel relay needed to be replaced. Supposedly this was going to fix all my problems. The day after getting the car back, it failed. No start while sitting in front of a customers house. And of course, the three warranty's I have do not cover the issue and since they never "diagnosed" the problem when I brought it in days after purchase I am to pay all out of pocket fees.
When attempting to use the push button ignition to start the vehicle, the vehicle crank over to start and then stutter out or crank to start and get stuck cranking until operator shut it down- sometimes would not shut down immediately but keep stuttering for a short period of time. Upon bringing to dealership, the mechanic identified issues w/ lariant #5 stating need to be replaced with the new style lariant #6. dealership informed me- not covered under any type of warranty. Why not" what is wrong with lariant #5 that needed to be upgraded to a new version" after researching online, multiple owners of the 2011 Durango have reported issues of this same part. An investigation needs to be performed on this faulty part from the factory. Dodge is aware of this safety issue and has done nothing to resolve and no recall has been issued. This has resulted in heavy consumer out of pocket costs for a newer vehicle.
Woke up the day before the fourth of July and got myself and the kids ready to travel out of town. Loaded everyone in the car and the truck wouldn't start. I pushed the button and it acted like it would start but it would never turn over. I tried for twenty minutes and could not get it started. I had to get it towed to the dealership. They first said it was a wiring and it would be couple of days. But then they called back today and said it is the tipm and they are not sure how long it will be because they have to order the part and it will take "awhile" to get it in. This is my only vehicle to get me to work and three kids to all the places they have to be. This is going to be a headache and the price went from 200 dollars to over 1,000 dollars. I could take that and use it on a downpayment for something else. Chrysler is way out of line allowing consumers to deal with a problem that they created.
On Saturday morning I attempted to crank my 2011 Dodge Durango my push start and it tried to crank but would not. I had to remove the push start button and crank the car manually, which took several attempts. After I got it started I had no more trouble that day. On Sunday the problem got worse. It again had to remove the remote start botton because the car would continuously try to start without success. When we would get the car started it would immediately die. After several attempts and pressing the gas we were able to get the car started. I began to read online and found that thousands of people are having the same issue and that it is a fualty tipm. I contacted the Dodge dealer and have an appointment to take my car in. Not happy!!
My 2011 Dodge Durango has been having trouble starting over the past few days. It would not start and just kept trying to turn over. Eventually after a few attempts it would start. Then today it started and after I left the house and was driving with my 3yr old in the car, the Durango stalled in the middle of the road. Thankfully I was approaching a stop sign so I was not going very fast. It started up again but now tonight it sounds like there is a fan running under my car, and the car is off. I am very concerned about all of the things I have been reading about this issue and I believe this is a huge safety concern that needs to be addressed immediately!!!!
