On January 26, after allowing my 2007 Dodge Durango to warm up a few minutes, my children and I got in the car to leave for school. We noticed a burning smell and then light smoke coming from above the dash. I turned the ignition off and we got out of the truck. Within a minute, there was thick black smoke pouring out of the truck, then a small flame inside which gave way to huge flames instantly. The truck was completely engulfed literally within 3 minutes. The glass blew out on all of the windows and my children and I were terrified. I had already called 911, and when the fireman arrived to put out the fire they said it started under the hood. I have numerous pictures of what was left of the truck, which is not much. My garage, fence and other property were damaged in the fire. Clearly there is a defect in these cars that the public should be made aware of. We could have been killed if I had been driving somewhere unable to pull over.
