I asked the gas attendant to fill up the tank. After about half a minute or so, gas sprayed out of the tank. I would estimate half a gallon of gas or so was sprayed out onto the car and ground. At first I thought it was the gas pump nozzle. Did fill ups at three different gas stations and same result. I called the dealership and the mechanic said that only the 4.7S are being recalled not the 5.7S for the gas tank's return valve malfunction which causes the spray.

The baffle blocked the fuel going through the engine causing the vehicle to stall. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue however no assistance was offered. The VIN was unavailable. Experiencing same issue as reported in NHTSA recall campaign number 09V003000 - fuel-spit back problems caused by stuck inlet check valves in the fuel tank filler tubes. When filling up the tank the fuel spits out. This issue occurs regularly upon fill up. The fuel spits out onto vehicle, gas station pavement, and clothing. This is an extreme hazard to myself and to my passengers in the vehicle during regular fill ups. I've had to refrain from filling up the vehicle to full capacity to avoid this occurrence. We had our gas tank replaced on our vehicle on 7/24/08 and Chrysler then had a recall notice for the fuel inlet valve issue, which was the problem that we were having. We have contacted Chrysler about reimbursing us the cost of the gas tank due to the recall and they will not reimburse this money, stating that they have reviewed our case and will not reimburse us. We were not aware of this recall, as we did not receive a notice. We have owned the vehicle since February of 2008. We just became aware of the recall and therefore contacted Chrysler about this situation. Does the company have to cover this cost due to the recall of the gas tank and if so is there a time limit on the recall?

I have owned this vehicle for approximately four years now. It has a persistent and very unsettling problem of stalling for no apparent reason with no corresponding warning lights etc. It just dies and the power steering and brakes fail resulting in significant loss of steering and braking effectiveness. This problem has occurred intermittently with no pattern of origin evident several times over the past few years. On several occasions, it has occurred while pulling out into busy traffic lanes across intersections. I have been able to put it into neutral and immediately restart it to avoid a collision. I have utilized fuel cleaners and changed the spark plugs etc. In a effort to resolve the issue. It happened again today at low speed in a parking lot fortunately..just died without warning. I researched this online and found that this is a common engine problem complaint with the Durango. Today, this occurred with over 3/4 tank of fresh fuel in the tank.
