CarComplaints.com Notes: The second generation Durango was introduced in 2004 and instantly came under fire for, well, catching on fire.

From 2004-2006 electrical overloading in the driver's side instrument panel caused numerous reports of interior fires. The interior infernos became so commonplace that Chrysler eventually issued a recall.

The problems didn't stop there, however. Owners of the recalled vehicles complained about being treated unfairly and given take-it-or-leave-it low ball settlement offers. "They offered me $2000 under NADA retail as a settlement," said one owner, "and have been rude and hostile to deal with." Nothing says awesome service like treating your customers rudely after their cars have already caught on fire.

My car stalls at different times and I lose all ability to steer and has come very close to causing a serious accident. The dealership has never been able to find a problem but it has happened at least 20 times in the last two years and left no codes. The dealership just says no codes no answer.

I purchased my Dodge Durango limited new in 2005. I had no problems until approx. 1 year in to ownership. When the vehicle is placed in reverse after sitting overnight or while at work it has a several second hesitation. After taking it to the dealership (3) times they finally found a tsb to replace the transmission filter which they say they did. The problem seemed to get a little better. Now though (1500 miles later) my Durango is hesitating in reverse and forward. The dealership can't replicate the problem ( never have ) and don't know what to do now. I have also now had (2) instances of the engine shutting off at low speeds. The dealership also can not replicate this and don't know what to do. My Durango has spent almost 2 weeks total in the shop with these issues. I guess I will need to put a sign on my rear windshield that reads "stay back vehicle engine dies".

2005 Dodge Durango slt, 5.7L V8 stalls when braking. This has happened on several occasions since May 2007. The dealer has cleaned the throttle body, replaced the battery as they said it was loosing voltage and flushed the fuel injection system. As we drove it out of the dealership after it was "fixed" it did the same thing, yet they cannot duplicate the problem when they have it.

On three separate occasions, my Durango has stalled while driving with no warning and for no apparent reason. After it happened the first time I took it to the dealership and they said that they couldn't duplicate the problem so could do nothing. Most recently it happened twice in the same day on my wife. At this point I am beginning to search for another vehicle because I am concerned for the safety of my three children. Please do something about this before someone gets hurt or killed!!!

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The vehicle stalled due to low idling when the contact made a hard turn. The failure occurred when the vehicle was first started. The vehicle received a software upgrade, but the failure persists. The failure is similar to what is stated in NHTSA action number PE05027. The current and failure mileages were 60,000. My 2005 Dodge Durango limited, hemi V8, 50K miles has stalled 4 times at highway speeds. (65-80) and twice in the last week. When this happens the SUV has a loss of power/steering/brakes and it is quite a challenge to coax the SUV to the side of the road and avoid damage. This last time the SUV was unable to stop in a safe distance and went off in the median. It also lost automatic headlights so I was trying to move the SUV off the road at night with no lights to guide on a busy section of I-90 in Ohio. The Durango has also stalled 2 times backing out of my driveway in the last 3-6 months. I have had this looked at by my local dealer and they could not find any problems. The Durango is up to date on all tsb's and recalls. I will be bringing the Durango back to the shop again tomorrow to have it check out again.

Dodge Durango 4.7 liter V8 stalls for no apparent reason. No cell or trouble codes, just complete loss of power. Changed fuel stations, and performed tune-up. I fear an accident may occur.

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. While driving 15 mph, the engine stalled and then shut off completely. There was a loss of power steering and brake power. The vehicle was able to be restarted. The dealer reprogrammed the computer software, but the failure recurred. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 27,000 and current mileage was 43,000.

While driving my 2005 Durango, when I hit the brake, the engine will cut off, no warning lights come on, steering tightens, I have to put it back into park for it to start again. This has been going on for 30,000 miles and 18 months, it has been to 4 different dealers, and no one can find the problem. One dealer said it needed a tune up that was at 24,000 miles, so we paid $900 for that and new brakes. That wasn't the problem. One month ago, while pulling into a parking lot, the vehicle shut off and I hit a parked car because the steering wheel tightened and brakes locked up. Luckily no one was injured. This has happened at least 2 dozen times.

2005 Durango engine dies when changing from reverse to drive after backing out of parking space. Also dies when accelerating from a slow roll such as an uncontrolled intersection. I have been involved in 5 near miss incidents in the last 18 months. Dealer has done a tune-up and test drive and has told me there is nothing wrong with the vehicle. Are people going to have to die before something is done about this?

05 Durango with 5.7 hemi stalls when driving. Sometimes when backing up sometimes when coming to stop sign or light, or sometimes when driving on roads at different speeds. This is the worst scenario because power steering and brakes also go. Has not caused accident for us yet, but cam close when my fiancee was driving. Chrysler is aware of problem and has tried to fix and has given me every excuse in the book. Finally has decided to replace car but with hefty mileage charge. I will fight them on that but I wanted you to be aware that all of their so called service bulletins do not fix problem. One excuse I got is that the epa won't let them fix the problem because it will effect the emissions output. I realize this is a problem for only a small amount of vehicles but it will only be a matter of time before someone is injured or killed due to the engine stalling.

At low speeds, engine stalls out. Usually when combined with sharp turns or angle changes. This is very dangerous... it leaves with with sudden power steering and brake loss in mid-turn situations!! I asked my local dealer about it and they looked at it with no conclusions. It has happened to me many times now.

While driving a 2005 Dodge Durango owned by my husband, richard flippin, the vehicle spontaneously lost power and the steering locked. I had a small amount of give and was able to maneuver the M/V slightly and straddle the driveway of a strip mall. I then put the M/V in park and restarted. Had I been traveling on the highway at a high speed...with my children...I don't even want to think about it.

I was driving down the road last night and about to pull in to a local place to pick up my daughter. My engine stalled, headlights went out and I coasted in to the place. I restarted my vehicle and all seemed fine. I drive a 2005 Dodge Durango limited hemi. I am very worried about this happening again. I bought my vehicle three months ago, used.

Durango 8-cyl

On multiple occasions, my 2005 Dodge Durango limited (5.7L hemi) stalled at low speed (5-15 mph) in parking lots and at intersections. My local Dodge dealership said there was nothing they can do because the problem could not be "duplicated." This occurs once every couple of weeks under the same driving conditions describe ed above. This is dangerous - especially at intersections with oncoming traffic.

I have a 2005 Dodge Durango and have had it 1 month. After 1 week of having it, it had stalled out and just died twice. I took it back to the car lot, and they sent it to the Dodge dealership, because it is still under original warranty. The Dodge place hooked it up to machines, test drove it, and sent it back because they reported they found nothing. It has in the past 3 weeks died or stalled out 3 more times.

I had won this vehicle in a lemon law suit against Chrysler. When I picked up the new vehicle (Dodge Durango 05 w/ 5.7) it had a check engine light. The salesman assured me that it was because the car was left running while they were pumping gas. Light went off after shutting off and opening gas cap.
