CarComplaints.com Notes: The second generation Durango was introduced in 2004 and instantly came under fire for, well, catching on fire.

From 2004-2006 electrical overloading in the driver's side instrument panel caused numerous reports of interior fires. The interior infernos became so commonplace that Chrysler eventually issued a recall.

The problems didn't stop there, however. Owners of the recalled vehicles complained about being treated unfairly and given take-it-or-leave-it low ball settlement offers. "They offered me $2000 under NADA retail as a settlement," said one owner, "and have been rude and hostile to deal with." Nothing says awesome service like treating your customers rudely after their cars have already caught on fire.

I have had my car stall/die on me numerous times over the past few years. I have had the egr valve replaced, the transmission fluid and filters changed and they did not resolve the problem. While I am driving and slow down to turn or slow down to turn into a parking spot, the engine will die/stall. I have to turn the car off and then restart it. It is very dangerous. I have had to prevent a few accidents from happening. It happened one time I was turning onto another street into oncoming traffic. I am frightened for my children's safety. I have read so many of the exact same complaints by other owners and wonder why nothing has been done about this yet"? are we waiting until people die in car accidents due to the lack of concern" thank you

While driving on interstate from work, oil light come on. I immediately pulled over and checked the oil. The level on the dipstick was in the safe zone. I then had it towed to my mechanic that told meth the motor would need to be replaced. I never had any other problems with the Durango until then. Oil was always changed at 3,000 miles. The mechanic told me that there is sludge build up because of the design/angle of the ports that doesn't allow the oil to move freely. Apparently is this an ongoing problem and this should be a recall for this, no one has the money to put almost $4,000 inanother engine.

We were driving back into town from a family visit. We slowed down coming back into town and my vehicle stalled out when we started slowing down. We almost got rear ended by another vehicle. We tried to start it back up however my vehicle kept stalling out. I took it to three different places including the dealership where I had originally purchased the vehicle and they kept telling me there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. After over a thousand dollars at the dealers and several hundred more at the other two places to this day it still cuts out and stalls out when I am driving it. Now because it is a hazard we do not drive it at all and it is parked in our back yard waiting for a miracle to happen...thank you for your time. Sincerely very frustrated.

First incident happened at a low speed coming into a turn. I did some research online and found that most Durango owners had luck with fuel system cleaning and/or egr valve replacements. I did both, and the vehicle ran fine up until today (2 months later). There were previous "investigations" for recall services a few years back, but they were closed out. I hope Dodge decides to open an investigation again.. I do not want to be paying $200 every 2 months for fuel cleaning services. This is ridiculous.

I have a 2005 Durango and lately it has been dying with no type of any warning. It usually will happen if I am turning a corner, coming to a stop and then trying to accelerate, or going through parking lots. Saturday I had a car full of kids leaving a baseball game and I stopped at a stop sign to cross a busy hwy in my hometown and when I went to accelerate to go across the intersection of the hwy my Durango died right there with oncoming traffic headed toward us...I couldn't steer and had to stop in the middle of the hwy with the kids in my car and put the car in park and frantically try to start the car hoping this would help (which thankfully it did this time). This has happened more than once and each time is getting more and more scarier. I am afraid to drive the car for fear one of these times my family and I won't be so lucky and will end up being killed due to the defect in the vehicle. I have reviewed many forums online and see many complaints in the forums where this has been brought to Dodge's attention and even complaints on this site with nothing done to resolve this issue. This is very dangerous for everyone involved because of the stalling of the vehicle. Please listen to the consumers and help resolve this issue. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning while driving 65 mph. The engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle had to be placed in neutral in order to restart. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer replaced the spark plugs, but the failure was not corrected. The vehicle continued to stall intermittently. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and a diagnostic test was performed, which located the failure at the cam shaft and crank sensors. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 72,000.

I have owned this vehicle for approximately four years now. It has a persistent and very unsettling problem of stalling for no apparent reason with no corresponding warning lights etc. It just dies and the power steering and brakes fail resulting in significant loss of steering and braking effectiveness. This problem has occurred intermittently with no pattern of origin evident several times over the past few years. On several occasions, it has occurred while pulling out into busy traffic lanes across intersections. I have been able to put it into neutral and immediately restart it to avoid a collision. I have utilized fuel cleaners and changed the spark plugs etc. In a effort to resolve the issue. It happened again today at low speed in a parking lot fortunately..just died without warning. I researched this online and found that this is a common engine problem complaint with the Durango. Today, this occurred with over 3/4 tank of fresh fuel in the tank. This problem constitutes an immediate safety hazard to owners of these vehicles and I am requesting that NHTSA initiates an investigation into it's cause ( S ) - thank you - related website link re: Common problem - www.carcomplaints.com/Dodge/Durango/2005/engine/stalling_without_warning.shtml.

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph the vehicle stalled without any warning. In addition, she mentioned that on a different occasion the four wheel service warning lamp illuminated and all for tires seized. As a result, the vehicle lunged forward abnormally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the front control module had an internal short and needed to be replaced. The remedy failed to repair the issue. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 78,000 and the current mileage was 91,759.

I was at a stop sign and began to make a left turn when the vehicle stalled. I was able to stop the vehicle from rolling too far into the intersection as a vehicle past from left to right. This was the first time my vehicle stalled. I have had it stall multiple times since each time moving from a stopped position. Each time the vehicle starts right up after the stall and I have no check engine lights or the like appear. This is very concerning to me especially when it happens when im pulling out into busy fast moving traffic.
