CarComplaints.com Notes: The second generation Durango was introduced in 2004 and instantly came under fire for, well, catching on fire.

From 2004-2006 electrical overloading in the driver's side instrument panel caused numerous reports of interior fires. The interior infernos became so commonplace that Chrysler eventually issued a recall.

The problems didn't stop there, however. Owners of the recalled vehicles complained about being treated unfairly and given take-it-or-leave-it low ball settlement offers. "They offered me $2000 under NADA retail as a settlement," said one owner, "and have been rude and hostile to deal with." Nothing says awesome service like treating your customers rudely after their cars have already caught on fire.

I have a 2005 dodge durango. the problem i am having is that at first the transmission was giving me problems on shifting,I would be stopped at a light or stop sign and go to take off only to have the engine rev up to 2500 rpm's then take off. a week later it wont start. I am not getting any codes , so I disconnected the negative terminal waited 10 seconds reconnected it and my durango started. however the rpm's were going between 2000 and 1200 rpm's. i took it for a drive around the block and tranny will not shift out of first gear unless i rev the motor up to 4000 rpm's . I replaced the map/maf sensors as well as the pcv valve still no luck , got plenty of spark and fuel pressure. ready to drive it off a cliff or through the dealerships front door.

after paying to fix my 'won't start' problem on my 05 durango only to have the same problem 2 months later, to pay again to another mech because the first one got rude with me. then 2 months later not start again. so I dropped the tank my self because they charge 300.00 dollars just to drop the tank. it takes me 45 minutes to drop it in my drive way with a bad back this was 2 weeks ago. I replaced the pump myself for 1/3 of the cost only to come out and not start this morning to take my girls to school. I'm a hard core mopar man it's all I have and driven for 35 years. I've owned durango's never had so many problems with them as I do with this one. I'm not good at electrical so does any one have a clue as what the hell is wrong. I'm mechanically inclined worked on all my vehicles myself cause I can't afford to pay the labor prices and I really don't trust most mechanics

I've read all the complaints about this piece of sh*t ss Durango. I really regret getting this piece of crap. I guess i have the same problem as every body else, yes that right the engine sludge, that the car dealer told me it was my fault. They don't care that I have documentation that my car has had it regular oil changes as suggested. Now they want me to cough up $4500 for a new engine, its a dmn recession. Mind you I've only had the car for 9mth, this is ludicrous. I brought the car used with 32k miles on it. they told me its not covered under my warranty, OH, that's right Im 258 mile over my warranty. this is just making me even more piss by talkin about it. I say we get a class action suit against them no good son of a basket cases. Too think i was going to go purchase a ASPEN, DODGE/CHRYSLER can go jump in the f------in lake & take your d*mn cars with you.

we were on the way home from taking my daughter to the doctor. my husband was driving down the interstate at 70 mph, all of the sudden the car died and we started losing speed. he pulled to the side of the road only to find out that it wouldn't start up. we checked the battery and it was fine. needless to say we had to be towed back into town along with my 3 year old and 1 year old with us. there has only been problems with this particular car.

So we bought our 2005 Dodge Durango used from a dealership and immediately had a problem, the tire pressure light was on. Funny thing was we did not have that option on the model we bought. Brought it to the ONLY DODGE DEALERSHIP in Fairbanks, Alaska and they said the vehicle was set to a better model then it was and corrected the problem and the light turned off finally. That was the beginning of the real nightmare. Once at a stop light it just turned off on me. Started right back up thankfully. Now there are nights when it gets turned off, but doesn't start up the next morning. Seems like about every 2 or 3 days we have this problem. Starts right up with a jump from someone though, and this is not always possible. We have had it brought to the dealership several times, and each time they say they cannot find a problem. Then we started having it towed to the dealership, once they said it started right up, the other time they had to jump it. The best part about the one time it "started right up" was that we had to let it sit there for 2 days, and when we went to get it they again said it was fine and we let it warm up. Upon getting in, we noticed the jumper cables in the front seat. Extremely pissed we were lied to, we went back into the workshop and raised hell. They said that it would not turn over, that it just clicked, but all the lights and other electronical stuff worked. They replaced the battery, and 3 days later it again started the not wanting to start issue. Sounds a lot like the complaint about the 2000 Dodge Durango, and this time when we bring it in I will stress that they look into the TRS Assembly. I am getting sick and tired of being late due to this vehicle.
