The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Durango. The contact stated while driving 5 MPH, she heard an abnormal noise coming from the front driver-??s side tire. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact exited the vehicle and stated that the front driver-??s side wheel was detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to an independent mechanic, and she was informed that the ball joint, tie rod, and wheel spindle needed to be replaced. Additionally, the vehicle would need a front wheel alignment. The vehicle was repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 240,000.

Multiple times the truck has just died. Driving down the road no warning. The vehicle runs just fine and starts right back up. Yesterday this happened on the highway and almost caused a major accident. When it dies you loose all power steering and power brakes. It is dangerous and ive found numerous complaints online from Durango owners with the same problem.

Driving on regular road just turns off and you loose control of steering, brakes and speed, it has happened on highway and lucky it has happened while on right lane. Steering locks down and you are force to use muscle power to get it out of the way. Can I make a lawsuit against the Dodge people to fix such problem or should I wait until my wife gets killed or others as it has happened with other Durango owners? replacing the PCM didn't do the job the problem's still happening and now is in the parking lot until it becomes safe.

Purchased the vehicle locally. After 2 days of owning it the vehicle would shut off at random moments. Sometimes when I am driving at 40mph and sometimes at 20mph and under. In traffic and sometimes after being parked for a bit will not startup. When we are driving and the engine shuts off the steering wheel locks up also. The vehicle may take hours before it starts again. There has been many many complaints and still no real solution. The 1999 to 2001 Durangos must be recalled before a fatality occurs.

My 2000 Dodge Durango all of a sudden just stalls on me while driving. My children have been in the car when happening scares me bc of traffic hitting me. I've changed all sensors fuel pump spark plugs and spark plug wiring radiator fan cleaned Cadillac converter checked all relays all good wiring is all good but still having issues a no bus code pops up when dies and have had the truck its died several times at intersection highways work everywhere its very dangerous and I've checked and lots of people have had the same issues. These vehicles need to be recalled before someone gets seriously injured especially like a child I've given up on driving my truck because I'm not putting my children in anymore danger. And I've seen people on here complaining about the same issues and nothing is being done.

I was pulling out of my circular driveway steering left and the wheel base wouldn't turn. So I backed up and continue to go around the curve, once I reached about 200 ft off my driveway, my car come to a complete stop on it's own. I backed into my driveway dragging my passenger side front wheel sideways. Once I got out to check what was going on, my tie rod end had become completely stripped off the rack and pinion. After further inspections, somehow the groves on the rack and pinion had wore down so much it allowed the tie rod to strip and release. I was so glad I hadn't been driving with my children on the highway, this would have caused my vehicle to flip and probably kill us. I know have to replace my rack and pinion and tie rod and just replacing the ball joints on this vehicle not a couple months ago. I am very frightened to drive it now in fear this will happen again.

For the second time in eight years I must replace the power steering return hose assembly because corrosion where the metal line passes through a rubber bushing has caused the line to begin leaking power steering fluid.

I own a 2000 Dodge Durango, and it often will just shut down while I'm driving. I have owned it since October 2008, and this has happened 12 or 13 times. I receive a "no bus" signal on my odometer display. I have replaced battery terminals, and a battery. It seems to happen far more often in hot weather. It sometimes happens when I'm driving 65 mph on the freeway, and then the car shuts down and I lose power steering (very dangerous), brakes (even more dangerous) and the accelerator doesn't function.

The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Durango. While driving approximately 60 mph, the steering column moved left and right and the vehicle failed to move immediately. The contact inspected the steering column and noticed that the pin that holds the upper universal joint and steering failed. The vehicle was driven to a local repair shop and the mechanic could not find any failures. The manufacturer and dealer were not notified. The current mileage was 150,000 and failure mileage was 145,000.

I was told that the upper and lower ball joints needed to be replaced. I have owned many vehicles and never have had so many front end issues on one vehicle than this one. I was wondering if there has been any recalls on the 2 wheel drive Dodge Durango, rear wheel drive. 5.2L engine this vehicle did have a recall issued on the rack and pinion steering.

The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Durango. The vehicle was brought to the dealer to perform recall 04V596000 repairs. Immediately after the vehicle was repaired the steering assembly shifted and the contact was unable to drive the vehicle forward. The vehicle was involved in collisions prior to it being purchased by the contact, W3hich may have contributed to the failure. The dealer did not correct the failure, and the vehicle has not been driven for a year. The vehicle was towed from the dealer to a relative's home. The contact had not experienced any failures with the vehicle prior to the recall repair. The current and failure mileage were 80,000.

Dodge Durango 4X2. We have had to have the upper ball joint repaired and now the steering knuckle is out on the vehicle. I have contact Dodge dealers and customer care and was told the recall on this only pertained to the 4X4. I am having the same problem with the 2000 4X2 and they state it is not on the recall list. I do see that there were 400,000 4X2 with the same problem.

September 13, 2001 my husband curtis joyner was killed in a crash in hernando, ms due to poor wheel base structure and poor wheel balance structure of Durango's of handling curves, was stated by accident reconstructing crew that's what caused the vehicle to rollover in curves. I hired attorney mcgraw of olivebranch, ms; who later stated he did not have the time to put into this matter, but was certainly a good case. I emailed dateline regarding this matter also. I say one night on their show where they showed how the Durango's did not pass the crash in curves or on the road.

Winding sound in steering when tuning wheel, horible sound while turning wheels and backing up, door locks are in locked position (can't open to get out of car and loud sound going off when door locks are supposed to self lock at 25 mph)bought car in 2001, after 6 mo took car to dearership to report problems while still under warranty and they said nothing was wrong. Still have paperwork to show of the complaints.I have 3 small grandchildren I take care of and Transport in the vehicle. Hope you people do something about this before someone dies or you will really be out of pocket. I have less that 60,000 miles on SUV so this can't be due to wear and tear. ( I marked oem yes if that pertains to original parts on SUV).

After two weeks of purchasing our (2 years old @ that time)Durango, as we were driving we heard a loud screaching noise, we found a piece that appearantly broke off, it had to do with the brakes we were told. Later our transmission wasnt functioning properly, it needed new sensor. When steering it screaches (had problem right after purchasing) and its been getting worse, we took it to dealer and they flushed power steering fluid and we also had to have right ball joint replaced at the same time. When steering it still sounds bad. We had to replace the battery a year after purchasing one at the dealership and a month after that our transmission went out. Dealer wanted to charge $3700. We took it somewhere else, hope to pick up today from shop will be paying $2570.

When turining my 2000 Dodge Durango I heard a poping noise, my mechanic told me on 10/27/04 my ball joints were bad and that the whole sterring rack needed to be replaced. I called the local dealer and was told it is not covered under warranty, I then called Dodge they advised the same. I looked on the internet and have found numerous complaints to Consumer Affairs. The repair will cost $1200, this vehicle has only 48,000 miles. From what I have read and the cbs news report it seems that Dodge should have a recall for this problem before people start getting killed.

September 12, I went to back out of a parking lot and the tie rod end came unhooked from the rack and pinion steering. The threads on the bolts were stripped out. When the repair shop went to loosen the other tie rod it disintegrated. They commented that we were real lucky it had come apart. They also indicated that the vehicle didn't have enough mile to warrant the needed repairs.
