This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
2002 Dodge Durango check engine light illuminated continuously, black smoke was seen coming from tailpipe. Mechanic determined this was because steering wheel fluid leaking onto the computer. The steering wheel had been making a clunking and whining noise when turned. This was noticed prior to the problem being diagnosed. It took several trips to the dealer and multiple repairs for the dealer to diagnose the problem. The consumer is requesting compensation from the manufacturer.
Power steering suddenly went out. Yesterday afternoon I had my 95 yr old mother, 2 yr old grandson, son and sister up on grizzly peak in berkely and the power steering without prior signs just all of a sudden did not function. I called Chrysler 24 hr help and they send a flat bed toll truck. My 2000 Durango with 44,300 miles was towed to connell Chrysler Jeep Dodge in oakland.
I have two: 1: brake rotors are once again out of round/warped SUV has 37,000miles on it, used mostly on weekends. Pads have over 90 percent left. First rotors were changed at 20,000 miles (about 1-2 years ago) pads then were still 80 percent left. My other car, driven just as much, does not have this problem. 2- power steering is non-existant when temp is under 32 degrees. After you let the car warm up about 1 min., it starts to work.
The car is hard to control (steer) and the dealer has worked on it two times and is unable to correct the problem. The star hot line was called today, and I was told to bring the car in in six days and they would work on it again. I am concerned about how safe it is on the road.
