Just bought this 2000 dodge durango and I loved it until my oil pressure started fluxuating and now my engine has blown! I am a fairly knowledgable person when it comes to cars. As in I can rebuild an engine alone in less then eight hours. I love many features of this vehicle but am very upset about this engine crap. something needs to be done about this!

I just put new tires all the way around my 2000 durango 4.7. only 132k never overheated. oil pressure is good but knocking loud, my mechanic says it's prob a rod and to tear it down & fix looking around $1600-$1800! I put it on CL for $1200 as is 4x4, clean, low miles, new tires & can't even get a thousand bucks, damn piece of shot Chrysler product Rip off, I went out and bought my first Toyota ever a 97' 4runner with 220k and it purrs and runs like a champ. I will never purchase another Chrysler product! Cause & Effect! F*ck you Chrysler!

I have a 2000 Dodge Durango that I love to death. I want to keep it forever but there's a factory defect in the 4.7l v8 magnum. Every single durango I've seen for sale on craigslist all have a blown engine. I want to know whats being done about this problem. Dodge and chrysler acknowledge the defect but complaints about it have not reached high enough levels for them to do anything about it. If you have a Durango that you love, fight for it. If we all complain and protest buying another Dodge or Chrysler ever again they have to issue a recall so lets all complain together. This is America where if you're not satisfied, you complain until they make it right. I WANT JUSTICE DAMNIT!!!,

what is the deal with all of the engine oil sludge in a 4.7? I bought 2000 dodge Durango and have had a slight knocking or tapping in the bottom end. I put slick 50 in it with a fresh oil change it helped for a week or so. now last night it went down hill and sounds like there is something bouncing around in the oil pan. I took it to a dodge dealership in Atlanta and the mechanic said that he has seen this problem before that he would be willing to bet his paycheck that it is the # 1 main bearing. So my question is this. If there is a defect that cause this shouldn't there be a recall? anyone have any advice as to what to do i am screwed without my vehicle. Is it worth fixing? Please give me any information that might help me.

well i bought the truck and i loved it but then in 2007 it gave me sh*t knocking noise and oil pressure going up and down next thing you know it died and would not start. so i rebuilt it in 2008 of summer and it lasted till now which is dec. 2nd its been knocking for a good month or two and finally gave. i am not rebuilding it or having someone else do it cause its to much money now i have a truck payment and cant even drive the f*cking thing. im pist so solution don't buy a dodge ever and now im buying a Honda accord for 1000 and i still owe money on it but for all i care they can come pick it up they would be doing me a favor so hopefully someone will recall the 4.7 engine i here they are made by Mercedes i don't know if that's true but you would think it would be quality made by Mercedes guess not thanks for listening and Chrysler goto hell

I have had all the same problems as the rest. oil and gas gauges going crazy and now the loud knocking . It is still running but it seems it is trashed at this point because there is no other remedy's other than engine replacement at this time. The car is not worth the money to repair it. You are correct , this is B.S. .

I need help and advice. I live in Virginia - here goes: Car went from running fine, no problems (that I knew of) to having a loud engine knock. I changed the oil and noticed what appeared to be engine shavings in the oil. Had it checked by two different mechanics who have basically said I need an engine replacement!! From what I've read, this is a common problem with the 2000 Dodge Durango. If I do replace the engine, am I going to have the exact same problem with a different engine? What advice can someone give me. I currently have to borrow a car because the car is sitting DEAD in the driveway. I've been told that if I drive it with the knocking noise that the engine will blow. I still owe 1800.00 on the car and don't want to pour in more money just to go through this again. I also used engine flush which made the noise lessen but not go away. HELP!!!
