1999 Dodge Durango. Start out with going down the road and it would just stall out. Would have to wait for a while then it would restart. I replaced the cam sensor, crank sensor, throttle position sensor, transmission sensor computer. Drove for 6 months then it started having the rpms to fluctuate and would not stay running. Put another computer in and checked sensors. It keeps throwing a code that computer is bad and multiple codes are being sent for lots of sensor issues. I have been on the Dodge forum and wow the complaints on there. Having the exact same problem.E own two Dodge and after this; the problem I really would not recommend a Dodge to anyone. This all happened when driving, now after all this, it will not even run enough to move to take to a dealer. Which they say they do not know the exact thing wrong.

Just bought this vehicle, the ABS and brake light is on, contacted seller and he stated it was not on when he sold it to me. I took to auto zone for them to run the needed scan on it. It showed rear wheel sensor. So, I took it to my mechanic. He then ran 3 different code scans on it and it came up with nothing. So, unfortunately he can't fix it without a code. Unless I want to thro more money into it just to start replace ikng things that maybe may not be the problem. Now the check engine light is on. Upon reading others with the same problem, I feel there is a faulty something in there that needs to be figured out and recalled. I pray to god, my brakes dont go out while I am driving with my kids in the vehicle. I am a single parent and cannot afford to just go out and buy another vehicle. Figure out the problem and get it recalled and fixed, please!

1999 Dodge Durango PCM/ECU will fail when it gets hot, giving a no bus, and causing the engine to stall and lose power steering and brakes. This has happened to my vehicle on numerous occasions at highway speed where I was barely able to control the vehicle. This is a huge safety issue. I have had the PCM/ECU replaced over 5 times, which is extremely dangerous. Experts have pin pointed the issues to certain chips coming unsoldered in the PCM/ECU due to heat. Keenan laws has youtube videos on exactly what the issues are, as well as many other have done. Dodge contract's out the soldering of these chips, but they don't do a good job as some don't work at all. For example, we put three in before we got one that worked. This is inexcusable and puts people lives at very high risk. I paid around $800 to a Dodge dealership in santa rosa California for a PCM/ECU that lasted only months. It takes a tremendous amount of strength to control the Durango with no power steering and brakes. Dodge hasn't been a help or the PCM/ECU rebuilders. Currently I'm waiting on another rebuilt PCM/ECU, which the rebuilder can't even give a time when I could get one. The date below is the most current incident, but this has been going on since about 2009 and approximately 170,000 miles.

The Durango acts like it's running out of gas and it doesn't want to shift I've changed the sensors a while back and I've had a transmission flush and it still keeps not wanting to shift from 1st to 2nd it just keeps rpms are going way high like up to five and six before it'll shift and then it still doesn't want to shift unless you let off the gas and when you give it gas it just chugs and chugs like it's running out of gas and it will not shift

I am my daughter were doing 35 miles per hour on a city street. When we approached a stop light the 99 Durango just died. Tried to start it again on it wouldn't turn over. Had to call a tow truck to get off of one of the busiest streets in our town, and blocked traffic for a long time. Ever since I bought the vehicle on May 5th, 2015, I can only drive it about 30 minutes and it will just die where ever I may be. I unplug the white PCM plug to the PCM (computer) and it will then start again, but only for about 30 minutes. I have read complaints about the 1999 Dodge Durango dying on the freeway while someone was doing 75 even on-line. I have read many complaints about the same issue I am having. I have replaced the PCM and other numerous parts and spent a lot of time and money. I have to go to many doctor appointments and am also a caregiver. This problem makes it very unsafe to drive and I am very lucky to have not had a major accident because of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have had (5) mechanics try to fix the problem to no avail. Are there any recalls on this issue? my daughter and I even died in the vehicle while in a car wash of all places!

I was driving on the highway at about 55 miles per hour when all of a sudden my vehicle just shut down. No steering or brakes. After waiting about 15 minutes it fires right back up. This has happened numerous times since then when temperatures outside get above 78 degrees. Today it stalled as I was waiting to turn left at a very busy intersection and had to be pushed while cars are still trying to pass and go around me. I had my sister and our 5 kids in the car. This is very dangerous and I have read on different websites numerous complaints of this same thing happening. Somebody could be seriously injured when you lose brakes and steering at high rates of speed.

I was driving down the road, and the vehicle just shutdown. I check my gauges, and noticed that a "no bus" code was showing, and that the fuel tank indicated there was no fuel. Another driver behind me assisted me in pushing the vehicle out of the road, because the vehicle would not restart. After sitting there for 20 -30 minutes, trying to restart the vehicle, it finally started. The fuel gauge showed almost a full tank of fuel and everything seemed to be fine. Before I could make it home, it shutdown on me again. This is an ongoing problem, my vehicle has shutdown on me six more times, and now it is parked in my driveway. I have been very lucky, and I am not going to push my luck by driving this vehicle. I have heard about problems with the new front suspension on this model Durango, and yes, I replaced the ball joints on my vehicle which would give me a couple more years before having to replace them again. Is Toyota the only auto maker stepping up being responsible for their product? comon man !!!!!!

When driving my 99 Dodge Durango it dies when it's hot outside without warning and won't start for 30 minutes or so. This is a major safety isssue!!! no one seems to know what the problem is and this is very frustrating to me. Is there a recall in regards to this issue?? if not there should be!!

My 99 Durango while driving just looses all power and shuts down I have replaced the battery, air idle processor. The stepper motor and a new alternator. My vehicle still will not stay running, I have children and need to get then to and from school, I feel very unsafe because I do not know when this is going to shut down. I have read alot of other complaints with the same problem with the same year vehicle on auto beef.com. This is obviously a manufacturer defect and Dodge needs to take responsibility before this ends up in very serious accidents possible death.

While maneuvering in icy conditions the cruise control because of its design on the steering wheel, inadvertently engaged resulting in a crash. It seems that wearing gloves contributes to the problem.

1999 Dodge Durango engine ceases along with ball joint problems. I had to have my engine replaced in the 5 yrs that I have owned it twice! that is not normal on a vehicle that is suppose to be tough and get more than 36,000 miles to the engine! I have called damlier Chrysler about the situation and they cannot compensate me in any way and he wasn't allowed to say if that was normal for a brand new truck to have the engine replaced twice within five years! and by the way I have reciepts for my work done and the proper maintence of the vehicle within that time span!V I paid $30,000 for the brand new truck plus one engine costing me $4100 and the second engine costing $4300 besides the ball joints. The first time theree was a crack in the engine block this time the engine ceased and started rattiling like a bunch of tin cans because suppose broke loose inside the engine and my drive cam also had to be replaced due to a crack in it!

Durango has given transmission problems including high rev before shifting, and rough shifting in general.problem will always occur if allowed to idle for a few minutes before resuming movement. Has appeared to slip on occasions. Pinion broke with vehicle in no apparent strain with very slight acceleration on take-off- caused major rear end damage as well as ruining one rear axle. Contacted Dodge concering problem since part broke was 1.5 inch thick steel which broke so smoothly, it appeared to have been cut. Part should have been with vehicle 50 years from now when it is in a junk-yard! was informed that since vehicle was out of warranty, that nothing could be compensated for. Fortunately, this did not happen on the open road, or my wife and children could have been injured or killed. I feel Dodge should at the very least reimburse us for this problem as well as the transmission woes!

I just had $3000 in transmission work done on my 99 Dodge Durango. Now you don't need to depress brake to shift from park to reverse or drive. I have owned this car nearly 4 years and never noticed this before so I assume something was disconnected during repair. When we call repair shop they say brake shift interlock was not a feature on 99 Durango. I feel this is a huge safety issue that needs to be addressed. It is an accident waiting to happen. What can be done?

Please invesitgate the oil pumps on the 1999 Dodge Durango. Ours has gone out 2 times over the past 2 1/2 months. The dealer is trying to blame this on sludge in the engine from not changing the oil, but that is not true. We do have our oil changed. They also tried to state that we were really low on oil. My husband had just put a quart of oil in the engine the day before. I went to carsurvey.com and found several listings of this same problem with the 1999 Dodge Durango...the oil pressure suddenly drops to zero. Some reports state they even threw their rods when it happened. Others have had bearing wear. We were on the interstate when our oil pressure suddenly dropped to zero when this happened the first time. We had to stop and continue putting oil in the engine about every 100 miles so we could make it home from vactation. It's like the oil was disappearing, but there was no visible leak. No leak in our driveway when we got home either. The dealer replaced the oil pump after we got home in October. Three weeks later the oil pressure would start at zero when I initially turned on the car in the morning, the check engine light would ding, and then the oil pressure would go up to normal. I thought it was due to cold weather. Last Thursday, I went two blocks and the oil pressure dropped to zero 4 times while I was driving. I immediately returned the car home and my husband had it towed to the dealer because we are afraid to drive it. The dealer is replacing the pump again. I read on carsurvey.com that someone was told this was a problem with some gasket being too small for the oil pan by the dealer. They asked why there had not been a recall to fix this and there was no reasonable answer given. Please help. There appears to be a bigger problem that is being shuffled under the table.

Had continous problem with the oil pressure guage flucuating, vehicle had been maintained, oil was always checked and changed when needed, told by mechanic faulty filter, said was no leaks but had to add oil at times. When it probably shouldn't have needed to, there seems to be a definite problem with this year and type of truck due to all the information found on the internet, Dodge/Chrysler should own up to their reputation and come clean, I will never buy anything that has to do with this company ever again. I was driving home with my daughter on the turnpike, the oil gauge kept dropping back and forth then all this tapping and loud noises from the engine, I pulled over and had to be towed home and was told I needed a new engine, you could see a hole, I got no satisfaction from the dealer or from the zone representative, she parroted the dealer and due to my financial status at this time I cannot afford nor do I believe I should have to put out a cent. This vehicle definitely needs to be investigated I believe it to be a lemon of a vehicle.
