Phantom misfire can drop engine RPM and stall. Every possible sensor replaced. Fuel pump, injectors replaced. Entire ignition system replaced. There has never been a check engine light and while the phantom misfire happens a professional code reader shows no misfire and no history of events. Can happen at anytime, any speed. At slower speed the engine will cut off while driving causing a dangerous problem with loss of steering and brake hydraulics. Condition has been happening for over five years and I'm into this demon for thousands of dollars.
When outside temperature goes beyond 80 degrees Fahrenheit, while in motion, the computer has shut off the engine multiple times and a code saying no bus is displayed in the dash for a few seconds. It has happened to me going 70 mph. It has happened going 45 mph and as low as 20 mph. All I have to do is pull over and let the computer cool off and it turns on again. This is very dangerous as power steering shuts off and brakes become very hard. I have a great car in the winter. In the summer it's a death trap that can shut off engine, power steering and brakes in the middle of the freeway. Check youtube and google for "Dodge Durango no bus" and you will find this is a major issue with the computer.
4 times in the last two weeks while driving in heavy city traffic in the los angeles, ca area the engine turned off, without warning, warning lights, or warning sounds. All guages went to zero. There was no abnormal function of the vehicle before each incident. Power assist to steering and brakes were also lost. Each time it was in dry, sunny weather with the temperature between 60 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Each time I was able to coast to a curb or physically push the vehicle out of traffic. Each time, except one, the engine would not start immediately afterward. The engine would turn over briskly but would not start. After 4 to 6 attempts the car would start normally and then run normally as if nothing had ever happened. Each time the gasoline tank was at least one quarter full. Two additional times in the last two months the engine shut off while driving and then almost immediately turned back on again. The transmission was completely rebuilt 5 months ago. This had the potential to cause a crash but did not in each of the instances.
Acceleration and stalling issues while in motion. When coming to a stop the vehicle will shut off, on both street and highway. Replaced iac, map sensor, tps sensor and still did not fix the issue.
While driving at various times on the highways my car shuts down and I lose steering and power brakes which makes it hard to slow down and move to side of road. After 10 to 15 min L can restart my car.
The contact owns a 1999 Dodge Durango. While driving 20 mph, the vehicle lost power. In addition, the vehicle failed to start on numerous occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 165,000.
Usually happens when it is hot out but the truck just shuts off with out notice all power too all gauges go to 0 power steering. Does not matter how fast or slow I am going. I have to park it and let it sit anywhere from 5 minutes up to two hours. I have had several parts replaced and the problem continues no one seems to have an answer. This is so dangerous not only for me but also all other drivers on the road. This needs to be figured out soon I fear for my life and the life of others.
I was driving through a stop light prob around 15 mph speeding up to 30 when a van going 30 ran the red light, struck me on the side of my Durango, spun us around and we were hit head on by the van which pushed us back into a light pole. The air bags did not deploy I have a permanant dent in my head from hitting the steering wheel

The contact had to maneuver to the side of the road and waited approximately 15 minutes before the vehicle restarted and resumed normal operation. The vehicle was driven to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the computer had to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure recurred several times. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000. The VIN was invalid.
The contact owns a 1999 Dodge Durango. While driving approximately 40 mph, the engine stalled and the speedometer and the RPM gauges decreased to zero without warning. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that the computer needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 9,000.
I was driving about 25 miles per hour and everything on the system stopped. The steering stopped working, the brakes stopped working and the car turned off. It tends to happen on bumpy roads. This has happened multiple times in my 1999 Dodge Durango during the past year. I think it might be related to the ignition problem affecting other Chrysler products. The Durango was not involved in that recall, but it seems as though this is exactly what happens with my truck.
My son was driving on a road in fl at 45 mph when the engine just cut-off. He managed to get it to the side of the road. He waited about 15 minutes and it started up so he drove on. The next day he was returning from class and he heard an unusual noise from the engine. He managed to get it into a parking spot and then he saw smoke coming out from under the hood. His car engine was on fire. He tried to get it out with a fire extinguisher, but in the end the fire department had to put it out. Total loss.
I drove to town, stopped and turned off my engine for an 30 minute wait with construction. It started and I drove to visit my son. I turn off the engine, stayed a bit to visit, went to go home and it wouldn't start. Finally got it to start and drove it home and parked it. Drove to town a couple of days later and it died while driving, barely made it to town. Looked for information on the net only to find this is a very common problem and a major safety issue. This vehicle dies while driving and control of the vehicle at highway speeds is highly dangerous. Why hasn't Chrysler issued a recall? are they waiting for someone (or an entire family) to die" is that really what it takes, a loss of life before anything will be done? I've read that it could be the PCM, the PCM wiring harness, or a computer chip/sensor/relay something or other under the air cleaner. No real, permanent, fix at this point, a lot of people are struggling to determine the cause and a fix for this problem. Why isn't Chrysler helping? Chrysler doesn't back their product" no wonder american people opt for imports, they are reliable and built to last. How about doing the right thing Chrysler and step up!
The contact owns a 1999 Dodge Durango. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic, but the failure could not be diagnosed. The manufacturer was notified. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 85,000.
Engine shutdown, out of the blue. Nobus appeared on odometer. All gauges were on 0, but all other electronics worked. Starter would crank, but ignition would not ignite. I'm not sure if fuel pump went on or not. Vehicle would not start back up for apx 20 minutes. A couple days later, it happened again, then twice in one day. The quickest, but temporary, solution is to cool down PCM. An ice pack works great! but this is not always convenient. Needless to say, problem is worse on hot days. Once this happens, you need to replace PCM because solder joints are broken within. When unit cools, metal contracts, and contact is made again, and truck will start. But keep in mind-the solder joints are still broken. When unit heats back up, metal will expand, and connection will be lost again, causing engine shutdown and no bus to electrical ignition system. The very first time this happened, I had gone over a bump, which is probably what initially "broke" the solder joint. A new PCM can run $400. One from a junk yard could work, but there's always the risk that, it too, has the same problem-maybe that's why the truck is in the junkyard to begin with! and if it was in front end collision, good chance it won't be any good either! I've owned my Durango for 13 years, and it has never really left me stranded. But now that it has this problem, combined with bad design of front hub assy, vehicle is very unsafe and it's time to retire it - even though motor still runs strong.
Electrical problem just shuts the whole electrical system down "while I'm driving", at any speed...doesn't matter the temperature, it happens on any day, and at random. Major safety issue, brakes and steering become unusable. Just missed rear ending a vehicle the other day which got me to have to write this. I have to remove electrical terminal from post for 30 seconds, put back on terminal post, then hopefully it starts. I cant even drive my family anymore due to safety hazard.it has happened at least thirty times now. Local Dodge dealer says they have no idea whats the matter, yet hundreds of owners online postings prove what I am saying. Please resolve this before someone, perhaps myself, dies.....
Vehicle stalled at 60mph. Speed and tach went to zero. Vehicle wouldn't start. Would start after cooling down about 20 minutes. Would stall again. Same thing over and over again. Finally it stalled for good. Had it towed to Dodge dealer. Dealer said the problem was the PCM. Paid $2000 to have PCM installed with a new ignition coil. It lasted about 4 hours and 200 miles and it stalled again. Samething over again. Had it towed to another Dodge dealer paid an additional $260 had another ignition coil installed and it still doesn't run right. The dash warning lights come on intermittently, the security system engages for no reason and continues to stall. Dodge can't seem to find the cause of the problem, can't fix the problem, or simply doesn't care. My vehicle currently won't start and is grounded. All this after almost $2500 repairs from Dodge that didn't fix the problem. I have all the repair invoices from the dealers.
My vehicle stops without any cause while driving and will not start up. I was told it was the PCM being located in a bad location. Very dangerous to be driving or to be stranded!
The contact owns a 1999 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that after starting the ignition, a loud ticking noise was heard outside of the vehicle and smoke emitted from the air vents. The contact inspected underneath the hood and detected that the ticking noise originated from the engine compartment. In addition, the exterior of the vehicle exhibited severe rust spots and substantial cracks. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis and they were unable to locate the problem. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 114,000.
