i have a 99 dodge durango and i really like it alot because i can fit my 4 kids in there and another if needed, also 4x4 is better than having a van! for the last couple weeks it started out as in the hot wheather it wasnt working properly RPM would go to 4 or 5 and it still wouldnt shift out of 1st gear, now its worse and still doing it but now all the time no matter what the wheather is like, now it doesnt even push past 45mph but if i push it that far seems like my engine is going to go out from so much work on it.
i am so unhappy i have had it for a year and know it needs a speed censor but know that isnt the fix to the major problem. my break light is always on on the dash but i brought it to the shop n he thought it was the speed censor but he fixed it and all it did was make the speedometor work and the lights go off on the dash. so i had tham take it out after he called and said i need a new tranny used $1800. or new $2600. but there is no way i can afford that at all!!! i want to keep the truck but not if i cant fix what is really wrong with it. i am so bummed to hear so many with a similar pproblem.
if anyone has any ideas on what i can do please let me know!! my boyfriend thought it may be a filter but the mechanic says it isnt. and if he were to go into the tranny to fix whatever it is he said it still would end up around the same price as a new transmission! WTF??!!
