1999 Dodge Durango, bought new, has 53,000 miles, I was driving on a highway on 4/22/05, "check gauges" lit up on dashboard, oil pressure gauge went to zero, car still drivable, pulled over after 3-4 miles into turnpike service area, checked oil stick and it read full, continued additional drive to destination of approx. 5 miles and dropped off at nearby Dodge dealership, their diagnosis is sludge in engine and oil pump has to be replaced and the entire engine will have to be replaced, they suspect lousy maintenenace by car owner regarding oil changes, I have documentation that car was well maintained, on a internet search, I found that hundreds of Durango owners have experienced the "exact" problems with this type of vehicle. In addition, I have experienced other problems with my vehicle: Replaced window moter, replaced leak in cooling system thermostat, replaced switch assembly for A/C heating unit, replaced brakes and rotors on front.

I bought a 1999 Dodge Durango from carter co. Dodge. I did not start having problems with anything until about 6 months ago, when the passenger rear door lock and window were beginning to have problems opening. The window finally quit working and now the door is also having problems opening. Just recently the rear tailgate door has started acting up also. Sometimes it will open and other times it will not. It wont open even if you use the key. I am afraid this is going to lead to a major problem if these locks and windows quit working all together and I have a problem getting out of the vehicle. After speaking with the woman that owned the vehicle prior to me, she informed me that she had replaced the door locks twice and was tired of having to do this, so she traded the Durango in. I am afraid this is going to become a saftey hazard, and would like to see this matter investigated to see if there are more complaints than just mine. Thank you patty gibson.

I own a 1999 Dodge Durango with approximately 64,000 miles. Immediately upon purchasing the vehichle I have experienced a large poping and dragging sound when turning or performing a U-turn. Recently I attempted to make a U-turn and my car nearly lost control and felt as if it would tip over. I took the vehicle in to cerritos Dodge and I was advised that the vehichles upper and lower, right and left ball joints were completely shot. All were replaced. I continue to experience the popping and dragging sounds. Upon purchasing the vehichle, I have had to change the (all four) tires 3 times, obtain 3 wheel alignments, change the battery (went completely dead at approximately 25,000 miles) repair the brake light switch (brake lights wouldn't turn off), and repair door/hatch locks (unable to lock and make loud buzzing and clicking sound).
