While driving MY1998 Durango the oil pressure gauge suddenly started to go up and down.with in a minute or two total engine failure I called a mechanic he stated this was a common problem with Durangos said it would cost over 3000 to fix I have had this vehicle 1 yr and have replaced brakes ac compressor ball joints and tie rods I can not afford this kind of repairs I am a single mom and recently lost my job.
While driving down interstate on the way to work, oil pressure goes to 0 and truck stalled. Got truck towed to shop and was informed by shop that the engine had seized up. Engine failure due to oil sludge. This is the first and only problem we have ever had with this truck and now I search the internet and find hundreds of people this has happened to and that the company does not stand behind their engines and doesn't admit there is any problems. Now we have to come up with the $4,000 - $6,000 to get a new engine and still make a truck payment.
When co. Rep said the co. Would not compensate due to age and milage even though parts failed far short of normal service life. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
ABS lights came on intermittently for several months then finally stays on all the time. The dealer said that the ABS unit is defective and charged her $750 for replacement. The consumer was rather upset because the vehicle was just outside of warranty.
Consumer notices a banging noise coming from engine. Vehicle was serviced, and technician noticed no cooling. Engine needed to be replaced. Metal chips and sludge were found in the motor after the dealer diagnosis. The bearings for cylinder 1 and 5 spun the crank shaft, dealer replaced the pitman and idler arms.

While driving at state speed limit, engine light illuminated, engine stalled due to a constant oil leak. The engine was blown. The engine always burned oil and the engine light always came on. The engine was defective from day one. When previous problems with the engine would occur the Dodge mechanics always informed consumer that everything was fine. Consumer would like reimbursement of monies paid.
My husband and I were driving down I-71 and the check guages light came on and the oil pressure had dropped to 0 causing engine failure due to a clogged oil pump intake screen. Was told that it was due to improper maintenance although oil was changed in a timely manner. Had the vehicle towed to a dealership where the oil pan was taken off and engine components and metal shavings were found. The service advisor himself told us that he could not say for sure that the problem was improper maintenance. He also maintained that if we had a chrystler inspector come in we would end up paying for a new engine. Here we are making payments on a $30,000 that we cannot drive until we come up with almost $5000 to replace the engine.
Engine failure due to oil sludge dealer maintains it is due to poor maintenance we maintain that the vehicle was properly cared for and that we are not the only ones that this has happened to.
While driving at any speed engine check light illuminated on dashboard and vehicle cut off without prior warning. Consumer has contacted dealer, dealer stated that no electrical components have failed, causing the problem.
While driving on the highway engine check light came on, vehicle started idling and cut off. Pulled over and sat for awhile to cool off, then shift indicator jumped out of gear. Went to put fog lights, and they failed to operate properly. Fog light switch replaced three times, battery and throttle body also replaced.
Vehicle suddenly and unexpectedly lost power at highway speeds. Dealer has replaced the clutch fan on the cooling system and the problem still exists. The manufacturer has been notified.
While driving engine check light illuminated, indicating a malfunction within the system, shortly after a noise occurred in the engine compartment, then the vehicle completely shut down, cause unknown.
