I haven't seen it mentioned online so I'll put it here.
The 8.4 inch UConnect infotainment system in our car seems haunted.
It randomly goes to a white screen, then blank for a few minutes, then back to normal as if nothing ever happened.
Another problem that happens with about the same randomness is all the radio controls will freeze up, and there will be no sound from any source other than SiriusXM satellite. That really sucks because we don't subscribe to satellite radio so for those trips that the system doesn't feel like cooperating, we have to either listen to the promo channel, or nothing at all.
It's strange because although many of the controls are frozen, it's not totally stuck. We can change inputs, program tuner presets, but we CAN'T change the radio frequency, use the presets, or adjust the volume. so if it's stuck on 97.9MHz, and I press another preset, nothing happens except the "ding" acknowledging that the screen has been touched. if I press and hold another preset, it changes to "97.9" even though it won't play the sound. During such times, it also doesn't display any RBDS station/song/artist data that would normally be shown on the screen.
Of course my local dealership can't even begin to diagnose the problems because they insist on booking an appointment, but the problem is so random that weeks go by without ever occurring, so they think it's perfectly ok to not even try to look for any loose connector, ground, or whatnot. Updating the software is their answer to everything, and... IT HASN'T FIXED ANYTHING.
There, It's documented, Have a wonderful day...
