CarComplaints.com Notes: The first year of the new Dodge Dart had a rough start, with owners reporting a disproportionate number of engine and transmission problems.
For transmission, the main complaints are transmission failure & rough shifting. So far, average mileage for transmission failure is 25,000 miles. Not good.
For engine problems, it usually starts with the engine light coming on for any number of reasons: bad sensors, ignition coil replacement, bad wiring, faulty gas cap ... dealers are replacing various components with varying degrees of success, or telling owners they can't duplicate the issue.

My daughter just bought this car from reputable dealer here in Memphis Tn.. She has driven a manual before but it's been a few years so her fiance drove it home for her and I was going to re-teach her to drive a manual. I have driven a manual plenty of times and I own a Toyota Celica which is a manual so this wasn't an issue for me at all. This Dart has been a pain in my arse and hers too! First off let me say this..I own a 2016 Dart and I've had no issues with it at all, so I thought this would be a great little car for her too, boy was I wrong! This car will not shift correctly to save her life or mine! It won't go in reverse without trying a million times and then trying to get it to go in 1st gear is just as bad!!! My fiance got in the car and he immediately could tell that the clutch wasn't engaging correctly as he had to pull the clutch back up just a little to get the car go into gear. The dealership where she bought the car from told her it's hers now and they aren't going to put in more money into it. Now she just brought the car home on 5-29, she took it back up there on the 30th, she had to take some papers back up there, and the dealership tells her it's hers now and she will have to pay to have it fixed. I think I'll be calling this dealer myself in just a moment and see if I can get anywhere with this. I see there is no recalls on this car but to have them blatantly tell her that is beyond what I think a dealership should do! After all, isn't there a lemon law and a 10 day warranty or something to that effect on a used vehicle? There is also an issue with the U-Connect..but I'll have to file that under a different complaint.
