CarComplaints.com Notes: The first year of the new Dodge Dart had a rough start, with owners reporting a disproportionate number of engine and transmission problems.
For transmission, the main complaints are transmission failure & rough shifting. So far, average mileage for transmission failure is 25,000 miles. Not good.
For engine problems, it usually starts with the engine light coming on for any number of reasons: bad sensors, ignition coil replacement, bad wiring, faulty gas cap ... dealers are replacing various components with varying degrees of success, or telling owners they can't duplicate the issue.
I have the 2013 Turbo Dodge Dart limited addition with the DDCT transmission. While sitting in a drive through, not moving, car in gear(drive), the car started omitting smoke out of the engine compartment. At first, a little, then quit a bit. Tried to pull out of line and the car, when accelerator depressed, did not want to go. Jumped forward about 1 foot or so, stopped, jumped forward again, stopped third attempt, it seemed the car was released and I was able to pull over to a parking spot and open the hood for a look. Smelled like burnt clutch or burnt brakes. The smoke had stopped at this point and started to air out. Inside of the car smelled really bad.
Made appointment with Dodge dealer for following Tuesday. Mechanics could not duplicate the issue, no engine or transmission code was tripped so mechanics could not fix anything. People did not know what to look for even though it was reported to be a really bad burnt clutch smell. I have a car, new, with 3000 miles on it and I am afraid to drive it out of town. I can understand a mechanical problem, a car is a machine. It happens. I cannot understand "I can't help you" and thanks for your money, have a nice day.........
Even if the problem never occurs again, substantial life was removed from the transmission in this car. Probably enough to get just outside the warranty before it goes out. Dodge Dealer did nothing and stated there was nothing they could do unless the computer said so. WOW, what a car dealer and what a way to treat paying customers.......
