CarComplaints.com Notes: The first year of the new Dodge Dart had a rough start, with owners reporting a disproportionate number of engine and transmission problems.

For transmission, the main complaints are transmission failure & rough shifting. So far, average mileage for transmission failure is 25,000 miles. Not good.

For engine problems, it usually starts with the engine light coming on for any number of reasons: bad sensors, ignition coil replacement, bad wiring, faulty gas cap ... dealers are replacing various components with varying degrees of success, or telling owners they can't duplicate the issue.

The oil separator is considered an after market add on. The extended warranty wound not cover the cost. The oil separator is a glorified PCV valve. 487.00 later it was fixed.

Dart Limited 1.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

There has been a burning smell coming from the vents when ever in stop and go traffic or coming off a long run on the highway. Dealer cannot seem to find anything. But I noticed the smell was strong after they changed the transmission control module 5 times.

Dart Aero 1.4L Turbo

  • Automatic transmission
  • 33,000 miles

Was sitting in traffic one night and had a burning smell come into the car. There was no sign of anything burning and the car was still driving fine.

Still smelled just as bad the next day and I brought it to the dealership. They ended up telling me that there was oil on the belly panel and that they cleaned it up and deodorized it. They found no leaks.

While driving it the next week I would get a whiff of the same burning smell here and there especially when in traffic. Brought it back to the shop. It's still sitting there, 4 days now, with no explanation as to what is causing the smell.

Will update when a fix is found.
