CarComplaints.com Notes: The first year of the new Dodge Dart had a rough start, with owners reporting a disproportionate number of engine and transmission problems.
For transmission, the main complaints are transmission failure & rough shifting. So far, average mileage for transmission failure is 25,000 miles. Not good.
For engine problems, it usually starts with the engine light coming on for any number of reasons: bad sensors, ignition coil replacement, bad wiring, faulty gas cap ... dealers are replacing various components with varying degrees of success, or telling owners they can't duplicate the issue.

I had to leave my car in a parking lot and walk the rest of the way to a doctor appointment I was on my way to. Then I had to walk back to it. I thought I was lucky to be close to a dealer so I took it there. There was almost no coolant left in the car. Why? So I paid to have a scope test done and they filled it with coolant. They said they couldn't find any leaks. Now here I am a few weeks later on a Saturday evening with the same problem. The dealership won't be open till Monday and I'm stuck away from home with my dog. It takes a special coolant so I can't get it anywhere else. To say I'm peeved is putting it mildly. I've got two cats at home that are going to be hungry and thirsty. And because I'm allergic to scent it won't be fun taking a bus to and from work until I can get my car back. The warranty ran up yesterday but it doesn't matter because they charged me for the testing while it was under warranty.
