CarComplaints.com Notes: The first year of the new Dodge Dart had a rough start, with owners reporting a disproportionate number of engine and transmission problems.
For transmission, the main complaints are transmission failure & rough shifting. So far, average mileage for transmission failure is 25,000 miles. Not good.
For engine problems, it usually starts with the engine light coming on for any number of reasons: bad sensors, ignition coil replacement, bad wiring, faulty gas cap ... dealers are replacing various components with varying degrees of success, or telling owners they can't duplicate the issue.

I bought the car new with just slightly over 200 miles on it. I had it for exactly 33 days and while on a Friday evening I was 1/2 way out of the city on my way to my grand daughters birthday party 600 miles from me the hot engine light came on. I pulled into a parking lot an thought oh good it's a Canadian Tire station and I can get help. Turns out the car takes a special coolant and the only place to get it was the dealer but now they're closed. I waited four hours for a tow truck and a friend took me home afterwards. Early next morning I called the dealer only to find that the shop is closed on Sat. The following Monday I discover that because the coolant is special it was going to have to come from the states manufacturer. Didn't get car back for a week. They said a hose clamp wasn't on properly.
