My wife drives my truck due to gas mileage and she started complaining about the steering wheel locking up on her. Luckily she only drives short distances and when the steering failed it was at a slow speed. Didn't think much of it at first and I thought that maybe the engine had shut off on her which caused the power steering to stop working. When I finally experienced the locking issue I checked to make sure the engine was running which it was. I turned into a parking lot and I noticed the battery light turned on and off and the power steering slowly started working again. I shut down the motor and waited a few seconds before turning it back on. The power steering was still acting up but after a while it went back to normal and I drove home. As I was getting ready to turn into my driveway it happened again. I had a steering fluid leak in the past which I had fixed by replacing the whole steering mechanism. Can't remember the name of the part but I was told the gasket can't be replaced and the whole thing had to be changed. I thought that would fix the problem but it obviously didn't. I'm now afraid to drive this vehicle on the highway in case the issue happens again. With all the steering complains I've read in this site about this vehicle, I'm surprised it hasn't been corrected by Dodge already. The owners are being told there's no issue by the dealers and don't seem to care. It may take several deaths before they do anything.
