Just bought the truck. Had it certified and changed the typical things; caliper, rear brake hardware kit, front flex hoses and a couple brake lines. No biggy right? Wrong. Couple weeks later I let off on the gas and I hear a whine and and a clunk. DAM! Call my master mechanic and he say "o ya happens all the time, you need inner bearings and yoke bearings AND get the good ones. We will have to modify the diff so it holds more oil. Synthetic only. AT A 100 K'S!!! Can we say recall.
Bought 05 dakota new may 05.No problem till11/09 38000mi.rear end developed bad whine.Took to dealer and they rebuilt ( 9 1/4 ") New ring, pinion all bearings and case.May 2010 returned to dealer w/whine.They kept truck 23 days and only changed fluid.Returned to dealer July 2010 with whine, They rebuilt it again. In a few days whine came back.Returned to dealer Jan 2011. They reshimmed and adjusted. This stopped noise a few months. Whine came back! Took baack to deaker Jan 2012 (54600mi). Mechanic informed me he could not hear noise.(musta needed hearing aids) I became disgusted and bought used rear end from salvage yard,installed it and PROBLEM SOLVED! Sent registered letter with all paper work from beginning to end,requesting reimbursement to Chrysler. Their response: Vehicle too old! Yet still had time and mileage on socalled Power train warranty. Also have added care plus.Which covered rear end. SUMMARY; 5 trips to dealer,3 years of aggravation, 2 warranties, had to fix it myself. Been driving Dodges since 1974. No more after this one!!!!
