problem #2

Charger Scat Pack 6.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 36,500 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

At about 35,000 miles, the 8.4" Infotainment screen that controls all functions of the environmental, back-up camera, drive modes, seat heaters, car settings, and radio functions, went blank for 1 day leaving all of those functions inoperable. The dealer was contacted but because the system was now operating properly they said to record future events and contact them again.

At about 36,500 miles, it happened a second time and was video recorded on the phone and shown to the dealership service adviser. The dealership checked for software updates found there were none so they scheduled a service appointment.

A day before the service appoint, the back-up camera view malfunctioned multiple times showing a blue screen. It too was video recorded.

When the car was turned into the dealership service department for repair, a copy of both incidents was provided to the dealer on a thump drive.

A day later the dealership advised the radio infotainment unit was bad and FCA approved unit replacement under the extended warranty with $200 deductible.

This is not a rare occurrence - FCA product with UConnect systems and many owners knowledgeable of this and other electronic issues try a soft reboot of the system by manipulating a few controls on the dash. And if that does not work, by performing a hard reboot by disconnecting the negative and positive cables from the battery in the trunk, and then touching both DISCONNECTED cables together for a few minutes to dissipate residual energy from the cars electrical circuits before reconnecting the battery cables to the battery. When these methods fail to correct the problem, it is typically determined by the dealership that the equipment has a hard failure.

My final comment is do not attempt to hard reboot your cars electrical system if you are not knowledgeable of the process or you might be dumb enough to touch battery cables where they do not belong and fry your car's electrical system. Just saying.

Charger RS 5.7L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 12,600 miles

Radio screen malfunctions intermittantly. When car is first started, blue screen or black screen, Music comes on. Cant change music or turn down or turn off. Back-up camera does not come on when backing. Lasts a few minutes, Splash screen boots once or twice. Then radio operates ok for a while. Favorites Songs function on XM radio does not work.

Brought to Dayton Andrews Dodge Chrysler Jeep in St. Petersburg Florida on 12/7/2020. I was told they could not duplicate failure and diagnostics test showed no issues. They told me they could not replace radio unless they verified issue themselves. Said bring it back if it gets worse.
