When driving to lunch, I parked my vehicle in the parking lot and noticed a smell coming from the car. I didn't think it was my car because several other cars were parking as well. The car rested for 4 hours before being turned on again to leave. 10 minutes into the drive on interstate CA 15, my dialog screen warned me that the car went into "battery savings mode". I slowed the vehicle down to 65 and the inside lights dimmed. I was scared to go any faster, however I had a 12 mile drive home.
When I arrived home, I turned the vehicle car off, sat for 5 mins and restarted the vehicle. The message was gone until I put the car into drive. I did research and noticed several people complaining about battery voltage loss and the alternator wasn't providing the charge for the battery to hold. My car died several times in idle, but starts up when tried to be turned over again.
I need help! I see the NHSA put an investigation on my year of car for "failed alternator", but I don't know what to do till then. I used a multimeter to measure the volts in the battery and it's good, so I'm afraid it is the alternator. =( i just want my car fixed!!! It's hard times, and waiting for a recall to hit the dealerships might take forever. What to do, what to do?
Update from Aug 13, 2014: Car finally died ... 😡 ... but a new battery in it because the old one was "somehow" drained. Autozone provided a new one and found it is the alternator killing the battery. Cheapest alternator is $460. Now take into consideration that this is an American built car, and I believed that this car would be worth every penny. But now seeing that after only a year, maybe I should have went foreign. I'm a single mom making ends meet... but now with this issue, I'm set back. I wish Chrysler would own up to their mistake and fix our cars. Please push for this recall!!!!
Every time I reach speeds over 69 mph while going at any incline the car loses all power. All of the electrical equipment works and the throttle control light flashes when power comes back. I had to turn off car once to get it to reset. Dealer has "re flashed" the ECM but that did nothing.
