Went out to start car, lots of clanking and banging, then engine stalled. Had car towed to mechanic, diagnosed broken timing chain due to failure of hydraulic tensioner. Fortunately, exhaust cam on broken chain had stopped with all exhaust valves closed, so no damage to valves. After several weeks trying to get parts from Chrysler, mechanic replaced all timing chains, tensioners, and water pump under supervision of "expert" from Chrysler dealership. When reassembled, attempted to start engine, got same result, only this time, pistons had contacted valves and bent valve stems. Car was then towed to Chrysler dealer to have two rebuilt cylinder heads installed, and remainder of work finished.
Have since learned 2.7L Chrysler engine has been notorious for this problem for many years, yet no recall has been issued.
