This is an intermittent problem that has occurred over the last year. I'll be driving down the road and all of a sudden smell something burning. I put my foot on the brakes and the pedal is stiff. If I remove my foot from the brake, the van won't move at all. There is smoke coming from the area around my tires. I pull over and after the van cools down, the problem goes away. I've taken it to Dodge service twice already and they tell me they can't find anything wrong with the brakes and can't duplicate the problem so they can't help me. The service guy told me to bring it to them while it's happening but unless I only drive near their dealership, that would be hard to do since every time it's happened I've been at least 20 miles from the them or it was after hours and their place is closed.
I am disabled and this van is my only means of transportation. Now I'm afraid to drive it in case I get stuck somewhere. I so frustrated with the mechanics who think I'm making this up and can't afford to get another van since getting another handicap accessible van is so expensive. Meanwhile, I'm stuck with a van that I don't know when the brakes will lock again.
