- Dodge Caravan auto forum on Topix - There are many owners of 2006-2007 Caravans that have been through this exact problem, including the extension of the original warranty to 70K and Chrysler's refusal to accept any responsibility beyond that, including myself. Just paid $750 to have this repaired at a private garage.

In 2007 we purchased a slightly used 2007 caravan it had 34000 miles on it - feeling it was still a new car even with the amount of milage that things shouldnt start to fail on it for a while. By the end of summer the air conditioner stopped working. We thought it needed to be recharged and could do next spring because the hot season was over and why spend the money.
So in Spring of 2008 I took the van to a very experienced air conditioner repair man, that has fixed and recharged our cars for years. After he did the test to check for leaks I was informed that the rear compressor unit was leaking very badly and would need to replace it to get the air to work again. He advised us it was very costly to replace and also said it should not have gone because the unit is enclosed so it was proprobly defective. At this time our milage was over 36000 miles so I figured that we were stuck again with a crappy vehile with no air. Only this time I was really mad because the vehile was still pretty new. At the End of 2009 We received a letter from chrysler stating the unit was indeed defective and that they were extending the warranty on the unit to 70000. miles. Great except we had 79000 on our vehile. So I called the company directly and filed a case to see if I could get the unit fixed. I Was told I would have to take it to a dealer and have the test taken to determine if it was the same unit that was defective - They didnt recall the unit they only extended the warranty on it. So it cost me another $50.00 to be told again the unit was shot and would need to be replace. So Crysler compensation on a defective part that did not last a year on my van was 200. I would need to pay the addional 900.
I will never buy another chryler product again
