The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that the fuel tank detached from the vehicle. The fuel tank was full to capacity at the time of the failure and fuel was spilled onto the highway. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop who diagnosed that the fuel tank detached as a result of both straps fracturing. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 347,000.
Gas fumes were leaking throughout the vehicle. The gas smell had become overwhelming when the vehicle had been driven for awhile. A recall has been issued for this make/model, and year. This vehicle was not included in the recall due to vine although the same defects applied to this vehicle. Recall # 03E053000
